Reporting to the Chancellor, this position is responsible for providing legal advice and products in a university setting and in compliance with applicable UAE and Sharjah Emirate laws, and regulations.
Job Responsibilities
Provide legal advice or draft legal memoranda as requested by the Chancellor or other approved stakeholder.
Review, draft or edit contracts, memoranda of agreements, and other documents as requested.
Review faculty outside consulting requests and supporting documentation and issue NOC\'s according to university policy and practice.
Facilitate access to external legal sources and references when requested by authorized university stakeholders.
Draft or review policies for leadership or Board of Trustees review and approval.
Prepare periodic reports or updates for Chancellor and or Board of Trustees.
Review complaints submitted against university and provide legal guidance to provide resolution.
Coordinate the collection of documents and exhibits as needed to strengthen AUS\'s legal position in various cases.
Coordinate with outside law firms providing specialized legal analysis and advice.
Any other tasks assigned by the Chancellor.
Qualifications, skills and experience required
Qualified as an advocate or attorney in UAE with a minimum of five years of in-house legal experience.
Proven experience as legal counsel providing services similar to those outlined in this job description.
Fluent in both English and Arabic would be advantageous.
UAE Nationals are preferred.
