About the Opportunity Join Driscoll's Global Research and Development team, dedicated to introducing innovative berry varieties to consumers worldwide. Our proprietary variety selection process involves cultivating new berry varieties in facilities that represent our diverse production regions. As the Test Plot Manager in Moulay Bousselham, Morocco, you will lead on-farm plant care and provide technical support for our Breeding & Applied Research programs, focusing on strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Your role will include managing crew activities and overseeing the establishment, cultivation, maintenance, and inventory of proprietary berry plants in both tunnels and open-air fields.
Responsibilities . Directly manage the test plot Technical Grower and Lead Field Supervisor . Responsible for making recommendations regarding the hiring, evaluation, and discipline of research ranch staff . Manage Applied Research and Breeding trials for blueberry, blackberry, strawberry, and raspberry crops in Moulay test plot . Responsible for maintenance of all plants including, but not limited to, proper watering, weeding, fertilizing, transplanting, pruning, disease, and insect control in the test plot . Maintains records of all treatments applied. Ensures once plant material has served its purpose it is disposed of or transported to an appropriate location in a timely manner . Coordinates with stakeholders and members of Farming Operations regarding planning layout, preparation of ground, and planting of the Blueberry, Blackberry, Strawberry, and Raspberry on an annual basis . Responsible for all cultural practices at test plots, including land preparation, bed preparation, and planting . Ensures all plant material is labeled, inventoried and all appropriate treatments are applied to this material . Ensures the harvest is done correctly and make sure that the data is collected properly . Responsible for Fruits shipping for Flavor and shipping evaluation in collaboration with stakeholders and colleagues . Assure a safe working environment and advocate safety compliance . Responsible for equipment repairs and maintenance . Responsible for labor forecasts needs and activities . Performs monthly credit card expense reporting in a timely manner . Maintains the overall appearance, housekeeping, and safety of test plot . Follows Company policies and practices while representing Driscoll's in an ethical and business-like manner in all interactions with employees, government agencies, growers, etc. . Ensures the safe keeping of propriety varieties and confidential information
Candidate Profile . Bachelor's Degree Agriculture Engineering; Master's Degree in Agriculture preferred . Minimum of 5 years' experience working in a commercial berry production operation or comparable horticultural operation . Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with other members of breeding, Applied Research and farming operations- always striving to achieve team goals . Three plus years of experience as a team leader, supervising the work of others . Solid understanding of field preparation, plant growing and plant maintenance procedures and techniques . Experience with growing practices, irrigation systems and farm equipment . Knowledge of pesticide laws and regulations, and pesticide applications . Willingness to learn new skills to support personal and professional growth . Must possess good verbal and written communication skills . Speaks fluently in English . Possess a valid driver's license . A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restrictions
