This is a full-time hybrid role for a Sr. Technical Engineer at Desert Man Transporting & Contracting in Abu Dhabi.
The Senior Technical Engineer for a construction company specializing in infrastructure, road works, pipelines, and bridges plays a critical role in overseeing technical aspects of projects to ensure they meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards. Job Title: Senior Technical Engineer
Job Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning & Coordination:
Lead and supervise technical planning, design, and engineering activities for infrastructure, road works, pipelines, and bridge projects.
Collaborate with project managers, estimation engineers, and design teams to establish project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
Review project drawings, specifications, and design documents to ensure feasibility and compliance with standards.
2. Technical Support & Problem-Solving:
Provide on-site technical support to resolve complex issues related to construction activities, including design conflicts, construction methods, and material specifications.
Conduct feasibility studies, technical assessments, and risk analysis for infrastructure projects.
Evaluate and propose alternative technical solutions to optimize project execution.
3. Quality Assurance & Compliance:
Ensure all construction activities comply with relevant standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., ASTM, AASHTO, ISO, local building codes).
Implement quality control procedures, conduct inspections, and review the work of contractors and subcontractors.
Review and approve material submittals, method statements, and work procedures.
4. Design & Engineering Review:
Oversee and verify design calculations, drawings, and specifications for structural elements such as roads, bridges, pipelines, and drainage systems.
Coordinate with structural, geotechnical, and hydraulic engineers to ensure integrated and compliant designs.
Provide technical input during the design phase, suggesting improvements based on construction feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
5. Project Documentation & Reporting:
Prepare detailed engineering reports, technical documentation, and project progress updates.
Ensure all design and construction documents are properly maintained and comply with project requirements.
Participate in client meetings, presenting technical solutions and updates.
6. Site Supervision & Management:
Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
Work closely with site engineers and construction teams to ensure efficient project delivery.
Identify potential technical issues and implement corrective actions promptly.
7. Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance:
Ensure all technical activities align with the company's HSE policies and industry best practices.
Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for construction projects.
Promote a safety-first culture among the engineering and construction teams.
8. Stakeholder Coordination:
Collaborate with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth project execution.
Act as a technical liaison between the project team and external stakeholders, addressing any concerns or requirements.
Manage communication with utility providers for projects involving pipelines, drainage systems, and roadworks.
9. Value Engineering & Cost Optimization:
Review project designs and propose value engineering solutions to reduce costs without compromising quality and performance.
Assist the estimation and procurement teams in selecting cost-effective materials and construction methods.
Analyze project costs and suggest adjustments to improve efficiency and reduce budget overruns.
10. Team Leadership & Mentoring:
Lead and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on technical issues and professional development.
Conduct training sessions on new technologies, construction methodologies, and industry standards.
Foster a collaborative working environment among project teams to achieve project objectives.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master's degree is preferred).
Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in construction, with a focus on infrastructure, road works, pipelines, and bridges.
Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license, PMP, or relevant certifications are preferred.
Technical Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MS Project, Primavera, and other relevant engineering software.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction codes, standards, and best practices, including geotechnical and structural analysis.
Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, leadership, communication, and team management skills.
