Responsibilities:
JOB SCOPE:
The role is responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with corporate, employment and withhold tax taxation matters for the Weatherford Iraq - both North and South. The role will be hands on with the preparation and review of external tax returns, tax packs, dealing with tax audits, planning, audit support and other tax matters concerning Iraq. The role requires tax advice and recommendations to reduce the business risks and, where appropriate, maximise tax benefits.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Tax support to the business, key support for tendering team regarding all aspects of taxation, when bidding for work including review of contracts tax clauses to ensure its compliance with the company and country tax guidline and rules.
Manage WHT process throught Iraq including collecting WHT certificates from customers, prepare vendors WHT payments and distributing WHT certificates on timely manner and keep proper WHT records and filing.
Prepare monthly PIT calcuations for both Iraq and Kurdistan region accoring to applicable PIT laws and regulations, submit to the tax authorities and follow up PIT payments on monthly basis according to the tax authorities timeline to avoid risk of delay penalties.
Obtain PIT tax clearance on rgular/yearly basis and ensure proper forms and declarations prepared and submitted on timely basis.
Managing the response and resolution of tax enquiries, tax audits and tax litigation, coordinating and/or supporting external consultants, managing the relationship with the tax authorities alongside educating the wider group on any tax legislative changes and associated impact.
Work closely with the audit firm appointed by the company to prepare CIT tax filing on yearly basis and file tax returns on or before the deadline introducted by the local tax authoritires for both Iraq and Kurdistan region, this includes preparing and mapping Trial Balance (TB) according to Iraqi unified accounting standards (Iraqi GAAP).
Obtain PIT tax clearance on rgular/yearly basis and ensure proper forms and declarations prepared and submitted on timely basis.
Ensure accurate accruals of the tax liabilities in ERP system on a monthly basis.
Reconcile all tax related balance sheet accounts in ERP system on a quarterly basis.
Communication with the tax authorities.
Recommend process changes/additions in response to legislative developments.
Adhoc tasks as required.
Qualifications:
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, tax or finance related field is preferred.
Minimum of 3-7 year tax experience.
Prefer 3-6 years of general tax experience with a Big 4, large regional public accounting firm, government tax agencies, or corporate tax department is preferred.
Prefer member of Iraqi Union of Accountants and Auditors.
Experience using accounting software such as JD Edwards, SAP, Oracle preferred.
Experience using JDE and Vertex (or similar) is highly preferred.
Strong analytical and technical skills in interpreting and applying tax laws to complex tax matters preferred.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Iraq unified accounting system is preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
Experience with utilizing tax research platforms preferred (i.e. CCH, RIA Checkpoint or comparable).
Outstanding oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate conclusions and recommendations.
Solid teamwork ethic and excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with peers and management at various levels.
Ability to perform multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a timely manner. Individual required to be extremely well organized and detail oriented.
Should be able to work and interact with all levels of personnel.
