Requirements
The Office of Student Life is looking for a Student Development Officer to foster a sense of belonging and community among students, working on diversity initiatives, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and supporting student involvement in co-curricular programs. The Student Development Officer will be reporting to the Assistant Director for Student Programs.
As this position is based in Doha, Qatar and offers no relocation assistance, GU-Q is looking for locally based candidates only. This is a temporary, non-sponsored position that requires all applicants to already have the necessary sponsorship to live and work in Qatar.
Key Accountabilities Engage students individually and collectively to foster a sense of belonging and community. Work on GUQ diversity initiatives that foster cross-cultural dialogue and inclusive programming. Encourage and support student involvement in co-curricular programs to develop their skills in planning, organization, communication, money management, creative problem-solving, and self-assessment.
Key Activities Advise student clubs with a goal of developing students' leadership capabilities, fostering school spirit, and instilling a sense of ownership and personal responsibility. Coordinate reflection and/or learning programs like ESCAPE or Iktashif Qatar. Assist in implementing major co-curricular initiatives, such as Community Organizer Training, Model United Nations, Residential Hall Activities, International Student Transition and related onboarding activities. Participate in planning, coordination and facilitation of university-wide events such as the Diplomatic Ball, Georgetown Day, Random Acts of Kindness Week, and others. Mentor students on academic and co-curricular experiences within the university such as study abroad. Increase the competitiveness of GU-Q's applicant pool by organizing external enrichment programs such as the Georgetown Pre-College Session (GPS) and after-school programs. Serve as a chaperone and foster student engagement on international student trips. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements Bachelor's degree. Must be a recent graduate of Georgetown University in Qatar or Georgetown University in DC (preferably within 4 years of graduation). Experience with student leadership positions on campus with the ability to demonstrate pedagogical and logistical skills. International educational experience is preferred, particularly experience as a student in a study abroad program. Past mentorship, teaching and/or tutoring experience is desirable. Demonstrated understanding of Georgetown University's vision and mission for students, particularly regarding student engagement and Georgetown's Jesuit values. Ability to demonstrate event planning and organizational skills. Familiarity with the use and implications of Artificial Intelligence. Proficiency with MS Office and Google Apps. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to learn new policies and procedures, meet deadlines, and work under time pressures. Familiarity with the culture and traditions of the Middle East and the Islamic world is a plus. Knowledge of Arabic language is a plus.
This position's working days and hours will vary and are likely to include multiple evenings per week as well as 1-2 weekends per month.
