Job Description

:Position Summary:The Senior Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for managing all aspects of cost planning, cost control, and financial management for aluminium and glazing projects. This role ensures projects are completed within budget and meet all contractual and financial obligations. The Senior QS will work closely with the project management team, clients, and subcontractors to deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.Key Responsibilities:Cost Planning and Estimation
  • Prepare detailed cost plans and budgets for aluminium and glazing projects.
  • Conduct detailed take-offs and material quantity calculations from drawings and specifications.
  • Provide accurate cost estimates for tenders and quotations, including labour, materials, and overheads.
Contract Administration
  • Administer contracts and ensure compliance with terms and conditions.
  • Prepare and review contract documents, including bills of quantities (BOQs), schedules of rates, and contract specifications.
  • Manage variations, claims, and disputes, ensuring timely resolution and minimizing costs.
Cost Control and Reporting
  • Monitor project costs and expenditure, ensuring they remain within the approved budget.
  • Prepare regular cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and financial statements for projects.
  • Conduct cost analyses and provide recommendations for cost-saving measures and efficiency improvements.
Procurement and Subcontract Management
  • Develop and manage procurement strategies, including the selection and negotiation of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Evaluate and award contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and project requirements.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, ensuring timely delivery of goods and services, and resolving any issues that arise.
Risk Management
  • Identify potential risks to project costs and take proactive measures to mitigate them.
  • Conduct risk assessments and prepare risk registers for projects.
  • Provide advice on risk allocation and ensure appropriate insurance and bonding are in place.
Documentation and Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including contracts, correspondence, and financial records.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and best practices in aluminium and glazing fabrication.
  • Prepare and submit necessary documentation for project approvals, audits, and client reviews.
Team Collaboration and Support
  • Provide guidance and support to junior quantity surveyors and other team members.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to ensure effective cost management and project delivery.
  • Participate in project meetings, providing insights and recommendations on cost-related issues.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • Education: A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional Certification: Membership with a professional body such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or AIQS (Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors) is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in quantity surveying, with a focus on aluminium and glazing projects.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in cost estimating software, project management software, and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of industry-specific software such as AutoCAD and Revit is a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and numerical skills to perform detailed cost analyses and forecasting.
  • Negotiation Skills: Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective reporting and client interaction.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify issues and develop practical solutions to maintain project profitability and efficiency.

  • Cost estimating software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam)
  • Project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Primavera)
  • CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit)
