Job Description

:The Specialist Neonatologist will be responsible for attending patients in the age group from birth to the 28th day of life or more if necessary including cases of all degrees of complexity, according to approved standards of medical practice. Work is performed to meet established medical, ethical and statutory regulations. HOD-Neonatology is regularly briefed about the unusual problems encountered and the action taken.Responsibilities:Clinical activities:3.1 Performs professional duties of a neonatologist3.2 Responsible for assessment and reassessment of patients3.3 Conducts daily rounds to patients in the hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and the Nursery; performs general or special examinations and other procedures covering the full scope of the field of neonatology. Orders laboratory, radiological examinations, determines diagnosis, prescribes medications, advice nursing and dietary care as necessary and applies such preventive measures as required3.4 Provides in-patient care to the newborn and attends difficult delivery or cesarean section deliveries3.5 Offers consultation/referral services to the in-patient services in his area of expertise3.6 Works with patients throughout the entire process starting from consultation to treatment plan3.7 Serves as an expert in neonatology providing consultative services to other Medical Services3.8 Provides on-call emergency coverage for neonatal emergencies as per duty roster Administrative activities:3.9 Attends committee meetings as assigned by the Head of Department (HOD)3.10 Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to update latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy3.12 Involved in development of International level guidelines to standardize and improve quality of service provided3.13 Follows standard policies and procedures as required by DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, JCI, ISO, OSHMS and other regulatory bodies3.14 Participates in scheduled in-service training programs, CMEs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians\' conference or other committees as requested3.15 Participate in improvement initiates within the department3.16 Handle complaints in an amicable manner when necessary3.17 Foster interdepartmental liaison in order to ensure maintenance of established level of Service Agreements3.18 Aware of hospital fire policy and emergency procedures3.19 Participate in a quality assurance program for the obstetrics and gynecology services and help develop and monitor indicators3.20 Assist the senior staff in developing best practice guidelines protocols3.21 Documents all care provided and education/information given to patients within their medical health record, as per professional and practice standards / protocols OSHMS activities:3.22 Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards and procedures and cooperate with hospital management to comply those requirements3.23 Work accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities3.24 Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures3.25 Notifying OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses and issues and assistance with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports3.26 Comply with Waste management procedures and policies3.27 Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills and awareness programs3.28 Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systemsQualifications:4.1 Completion of a recognized higher professional education program.4.2 Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification of higher professional education recognized by DOH4.3 Must have minimum three years of experience since gaining the higher qualification or as per DOH requirements4.4 Demonstrate commitment to continuing medical education4.5 Must possess DOH License to practice along with Current licensure in country of origin as Neonatologist/Specialist Neonatologist4.6 Must possess thorough knowledge of medical ethics4.7 Must have a genuine passion for providing care to the smallest of patients4.8 Ability to work long hours and work effectively under stress and pressure4.9 Ability to demonstrate patience, compassion, sensitivity and self-motivation4.10 Must have good decision-making skills and emotional stability in dealing with sensitive and life threatening situations4.11 Must have good communication skills to be able to interact with many parents and caregivers of newborns4.12 Must have excellent medical skills such as manual dexterity to perform surgery on very small newborns and the ability to diagnose a variety of medical conditions4.13 Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership4.14 Must possess thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work 4.15 Must possess personality which inspires confidence and trust in his patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Organization4.16 Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements4.17 Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements4.18 Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement4.19 Excellent command of oral and written English.4.20 Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.Possess a can do and flexible approach4.21 Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels4.22 Ability to provide compassionate care that is respectful to patients\' preferences4.23 Knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel4.24 Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team within a complex clinical setting4.25 Demonstrates knowledge and practice of confidentiality policy
