Family Medicine Physician

Job Overview:

A Functional Family Medicine Physician diagnoses, treats, and manages the overall health of patients using an integrative approach that combines conventional medicine with the principles of functional medicine. The role involves assessing, preventing, and treating chronic illnesses while focusing on holistic health, individualized care, and the promotion of wellness through personalized treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities:

• Patient Care:
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including detailed health histories, physical exams, and diagnostic testing.
• Treat patients using functional medicine principles, such as personalized nutrition, lifestyle management, supplementation, and other non-pharmaceutical therapies.
• Manage both acute and chronic conditions, focusing on long-term health outcomes.
• Provide family care, from pediatrics to geriatrics, addressing all aspects of health and well-being.
• Work with patients to identify underlying causes of chronic conditions like autoimmune disorders, gastrointestinal issues, hormonal imbalances, and more.
• Develop individualized treatment plans, using a holistic approach to improve physical, mental, and emotional health.
• Patient Education and Collaboration:
• Educate patients about functional medicine concepts, emphasizing diet, exercise, stress management, and detoxification.
• Empower patients to take an active role in their health journey, fostering long-term lifestyle changes.
• Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive, integrated care for patients.
• Provide referrals to specialists as needed and support ongoing care coordination.
• Clinical Documentation and Administration:
• Maintain accurate and timely patient records, including electronic health records (EHR), treatment plans, and progress notes.
• Document all clinical decisions and patient interactions.
• Stay updated on medical advances, continuing education, and functional medicine research to ensure evidence-based practices.
• Health Optimization:
• Focus on preventive care and early intervention to improve patient outcomes.
• Address lifestyle-related risk factors, such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and stress, and integrate these into personalized health plans.
• Offer guidance on alternative therapies, such as mindfulness, acupuncture, or naturopathy, where appropriate.
• Collaboration and Teamwork:
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including dietitians, mental health professionals, and alternative health practitioners, to optimize patient care.
• Participate in continuing education programs, team meetings, and other activities to promote functional medicine principles.
• Practice Development:
• Contribute to the growth of the practice by developing patient relationships, attending community events, and engaging in marketing efforts.
• Assist in the development of patient education materials, workshops, or seminars that promote functional health and wellness.

Required Qualifications:

• Medical Degree (MD or DO) with completion of accredited family medicine residency.
• Board certification in Family Medicine (ABFM or AOBFM).
• Certification or substantial experience in Functional Medicine (e.g., through IFM or another recognized organization) is preferred.
• Valid state medical license and board certifications in good standing.
• Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
• Understanding of nutritional therapy, lifestyle medicine, and integrative treatment methods.
