The Department of Integrative Agriculture of the United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a technical laboratory specialist in the field of soil and water analysis. The successful candidate will be in charge of the laboratory logistics, as well as the operation of technical equipment. It is further expected that he/she actively supports an expansion of the laboratorys spectrum of available analytical methods and technical infrastructure, in collaboration with faculty members. The position holder will support research and educational activities in the field of plant nutrition, soil science and agricultural water management, entailing the provision of analytical services, preparation of laboratory classes, and hands-on support for students and researchers working in the lab. Applicants should have a strong interest in analytical technologies and methods in the field of soil chemistry and physics, mineral element analysis, and rhizosphere research. A profound knowledge of standard operational procedures applying to wet chemistry labs is mandatory. Expected is further an excellent technical command of the operation, calibration, and maintenance of basic laboratory equipment (centrifuges, tensiometers, incubators, pH/EC meters, pipettes, photometers, microscopes, fume hoods, balances, etc.), as well as the ability to independently perform standard soil analytical procedures. Experience with additional technologies, such as AAS, ICP-MS, HPLC, pressure plate extraction, or in vitro culture is much appreciated.Minimum QualificationVocational training as a biological, chemical, or agricultural laboratory technician, or a comparable education in a related field. Applicants holding an academic degree in the field of agriculture, horticulture, chemistry, biology, or a related discipline, should have a demonstratable experience with the management of a laboratory, independent operation of laboratory equipment, and/or the provision of analytical services.Preferred Qualification
