Job Description

Job Purpose

• Shovel Operators manage heavy machinery, primarily excavating and moving materials in construction or mining sites. Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, safety adherence, and efficient operation to ensure project timelines are met.

Job Duties

• Operate a shovel to move materials such as dirt, gravel, and sand
• Ensure that the shovel is in good working condition before starting work
• Follow safety guidelines and protocols at all times
• Perform routine maintenance on the shovel and report any malfunctions or damages to the supervisor
• Communicate effectively with other team members to coordinate tasks and ensure efficient workflow
• Keep track of the amount of materials moved and report progress to the supervisor
• Adhere to project timelines and deadlines
• Maintain a clean and organized work area
• Take reasonable care of their own safety and health.
• Take reasonable care of the safety and health of persons that may be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
• Co-operate with their employer with respect to any instructions and/or actions taken by the employer to protect the employee and/or comply with OSH requirements.
• Report to their immediate supervisor any situation which they have reason to believe could present a hazard and which they cannot themselves correct.
• Report all OSH incidents and work-related injuries.
• Not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided at the workplace in the interest of health, safety, or welfare.
