:Wood is currently looking for Senior Vibration Engineer (Piping/Static Equipment) to work in the VDN team based in our Abu Dhabi office. This position will report to the VDN Head of Department.Wood\'s Asset Life Optimisation business has established a global vibration, dynamics and noise (VDN) capability. Encompassing 200+ engineering specialists in 11 offices worldwide, the VDN team work closely to help our customers meet their reliability, integrity, and operational performance goals.Wood VDN provide engineering solutions and services that improve machinery and piping system reliability and assist our Oil & Gas, Mining and Utilities clients to achieve optimal and safe production.You will quantify and solve complex piping dynamics problems using state of the art field measurement equipment and sophisticated computer modelling techniques and be involved in designing reliable and efficient piping systems. Utilize your problem-solving skills to assist our engineering teams analyse and recommend solutions for complex piping problems.The successful well-organized candidates will be experienced and technically adept team players. You will have the opportunity to further develop your technical engineering skills and understanding of dynamic piping behaviour under the direct mentorship of our principal engineers and technical authorities. You will be a member of a team of experts and interact with our global customer base.Responsibilities:Field based elements:
Dynamic measurements in support of vibration troubleshooting of piping and static equipment concerns (on- and offshore).
Piping walkdowns in line with the Energy Institute \'Guidelines for the Avoidance of Vibration Induced Fatigue Failure in Process Pipework\' to identify piping vibration concerns and devise practical solutions.
Liaising with client personnel on site and at all other stages of projects.
Office based elements:
Completing Flow Induced Vibration (FIV) Qualitative and Quantitative Energy Institute \'Guidelines for the Avoidance of Vibration Induced Fatigue Failure in Process Pipework\' vibration screening assessments of process plant.
Completing general pipe stress analysis tasks (static and dynamic).
Designing of anti-vibration piping supports.
Completing reportage required for project with minimum oversight from senior colleagues.
Managing technical and commercial aspects of small projects from initial proposal, through technical delivery, presentation to client and final invoicing.
Assist the rotating equipment team where required and develop competence in rotating machinery.
Qualifications:Essential:
Competent leader of Qualitative and Quantitative Energy Institute \'Guidelines for the Avoidance of Vibration Induced Fatigue Failure in Process Pipework\' vibration screening assessments of process plant (on and offshore).
Understanding of process-related, operational, and other common excitation sources and able to collect all information relating to these in support of project goals.
Understand the application of various simulation packages used by Wood (FEA, CFD, acoustic, surge analysis etc).
Working knowledge of piping fatigue assessment and methodologies (e.g. fatigue life assessment, rainflow counting, Palmgren-Miner rule).
Desirable:
Fully conversant with handheld and multi-channel vibration measurement equipment including transducers, analysers, and all accessories. Be able to demonstrate correct use of equipment to junior colleagues
Competent in performing vibration, dynamic stress (bonded and friction gauges), dynamic pressure and noise measurements as required (at onshore and offshore sites worldwide).
Working knowledge and application of piping and static equipment industry standards (i.e. ASME B31.1, B31.3).
Understanding of typical piping components and fabrication methods.
Specific experience in the use of analysis packages (e.g. ANSYS, Caesar II, PULS/BOS Fluids, PipeNet).
Experience in the design of anti-vibration piping supports and production of fabrication drawings. reciprocating machinery standards (e.g. API 618 and API 674).
Flexibility: Able to travel to global site locations at short notice (on- and offshore).
Problem Solving: Good problem-solving skills using a logical and creative approach to solve complex engineering problems.
Communication: Capable communicator able to present project results and group competencies to existing and potential clients.
Commercial awareness: Under the direction of the Team Lead able to confidently manage day to day budgets and progress reporting on engineering projects.
Mentoring: Act as a mentor for junior engineers. This involves formal training and informal assistance and guidance on a daily basis (in the office and on site).Business Industry Experience:
Experience (
5 years) working in the on- and offshore petrochemical industry. Demonstrable experience of piping and static equipment projects.Educational Attainment
Suitable engineering degree and education from a recognised Academic institution. Masters/PhD level is desirable.
Working towards Chartership, Professional Engineer (PE) status or equivalent relevant professional license/registration from a recognized national or industry engineering institution.
