OverviewThe Senior Therapist is responsible for delivering and ensuring the provision of safe, effective, and evidence-based interdisciplinary services within their area of expertise. This role involves effective communication across the interdisciplinary team, continuous improvement in patient care through research and the development of specialist skills and aiding the Rehabilitation Manager in enhancing the role of rehabilitation specialists in the organization. The Senior Therapist plays a key part in managing the department efficiently, promoting health and well-being through education, and upholding the mission, vision, and values of the organization, while adhering to professional codes of conduct.ResponsibilitiesOrganizational Culture & Compliance
Adheres to the division's policies, procedures and standards while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory bodies.

Managerial/Leadership
Leads and mentors the therapy team, fostering open communication, and facilitating professional development through educational opportunities
and leadership roles.
Acts as a preceptor and provides orientation and competency assessment for new and less experienced staff as required.
Coordinates with the Rehabilitation Manager to ensure appropriate staffing levels for patient caseloads.
Advocates for an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
Oversees daily workload management, productivity tracking, and process improvements within the department.
Assumes managerial duties in the absence of the line manager, contributes to strategic planning, and supports the team through changes
and decision-making processes.
Manages inventory, participates in budgeting, aids in marketing initiatives.
Participate in staff recruitment and retention.
Clinical Practice
Delivers clinical care for own caseload and provides specialist assessment and intervention as needed, maintaining proficient/expert standards in
care.
Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team and other healthcare providers for comprehensive, patient-centered care, respecting
colleagues\' expertise and referring when necessary.
Prioritizes patient care through continuous assessment, prescribing appropriate equipment, and providing patient and family education tailored
to their needs.
Maintains thorough documentation of clinical activities, adheres to organizational policies, and demonstrates professional accountability and
competence.
Promotes patient rights, quality of life, and cultural sensitivity, ensuring effective communication and continuity of care, including traveling for
clinical requirements, and responding to emergencies.Clinical Education
Enhance staff competencies and specialist skills through peer review, mentoring, and facilitating skill acquisition.
Actively involved in preceptorship, providing training and development opportunities within the team, and participating in both national and
international conferences.
Contributes to research activities, health promotion initiatives, and continuous professional development within the interdisciplinary team and
the broader healthcare community.Performance Improvement/Risk Management
Establishes annual goals aligned with the service and organization's strategic objectives.
Leads quality improvement initiatives, developing and overseeing the implementation and evaluation of standards, policies, and procedures.
Actively monitors team performance, identifying areas for system and process enhancements to ensure safe and efficient patient care.
Manages procurement and maintenance of discipline-specific equipment, ensuring its safe and effective use.
Ensures team adherence to quality control, clinical practice standards, and health and safety regulations.
Proactively identifies potential risks, documents them, and implements strategies for risk mitigation and management.
Upholds confidentiality and security of patient information in all forms of record-keeping.
Communication
Communicates effectively with team members and maintains good interfunctional liaison to ensure smooth implementation of operational

QualificationsEducationDiscipline-specific Bachelor degree-Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language PathologyExperienceNo less than 6 years experience as a Registered Therapist in a large hospital with relevant experience with patients with the same diagnosis seen in acute care hospital or rehabilitation facilities.Job Specific Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of evidence-based practice and modalities used in rehabilitation settings
Ability to communicate and relay messages to patients in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner
