Supporting the Microbiology Lead and assisted by the Scientists, the Senior Scientists primary responsibility is validating and authorizing the test results obtained from sample analysis as well as consulting with the Technologist and remaining informed of their activities in order to satisfy the needs of the projects Stakeholders and other customers.
Manage day-to-day staffing in responsibility to ensure safe service delivery and maintenance of TATs.
Responsible for methods development, Validation and Verification
Supervise and ensure training and competency assessment of personnel in the

Supervise biological technicians and their work to evaluate the accuracy of their results.
Participate and in some cases be responsible for the recruitment of Personnel.
Isolate bacteria and other microorganism cultures for future study.
Publish research papers and technical reports of your findings.
Monitor and assess samples from a range of sources.
Use a variety of identification methods, including molecular techniques, to test samples.
Develop new techniques and processes.
Responsible for writing and reviewing Technical SOPs in area of responsibility.
Report, investigate, and monitor errors and incidents as per policies.
Monitor and identify microorganisms.
Oversee the autoclave room, ensuring safe practice is adhered to.
Work in conjunction with Senior scientists, providing cover if required responsible for reviewing results provided by the Laboratory technologist.
Responsible for the design and approval of competency assessment documentation in line with ISO
Responsible for validating microbiology results.
Ensure correct procedures are adhered in Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitology, Molecular and BSL3 laboratories.
Ability to lead and supervise projects that deliver results.
Raise the technical capabilities of the laboratory through collaboration and mentoring.

Promote and maintain quality in all services, ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place, follow SOPs and Best Practices as instructed in the relevant laboratory documents, and ensure that SOPs and Quality Assurance tests are maintained.
Complies with all ISO17025 requirements and Laboratory quality management system.
Follow SOPs and Best Laboratory Practices.
Participate in Proficiency testing, Blind testing, or any other laboratory quality control related process.
Assist the QM in ensuring non-conformances are investigated, documented, and changes to practice identified wherever necessary.
Participate in and undertake an audit (External and Internal).
Accountable for QC and QA in the department.
Responsible for the investigation and closing of NCs in the Microbiology department.
Collaborate with the Training Manager in planning and organizing personnel training.
Monitor KPIs for the microbiology Section, ensuring TATs are maintained.
Attend, and chair departmental meetings whenever required.
To deputize for Department Lead if required.
Act as a link between the Microbiology Laboratory, other RASID department.
Participate in Health and Safety activities.
Participate in Risk and Hazard identification.
Complies with the WWML Health and Safety requirements.
Responsible for risk assessments in responsibility.
Act as key contact and laboratory link for Infection Control.
Ensure safe practices are adhered especially regarding operational of critical equipments.
Act as a Link between Lab and Management.
Qualifications
MSc Biomedical Sciences: specializing in Microbiology and/or experience in an equivalent role.
State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology or a related discipline.
Evidence of participation in CPD.State Registration as a Biomedical Scientist / Technologist in Microbiology (preferred)Advanced working knowledge of Microbiology automated and manual techniquesAdvanced knowledge of antimicrobial resistance mechanismsExperience in automated laboratory service supervision and management.Knowledge and experience in a wide range of analytical systems, techniques, and quality assurance.Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsKnowledge of ISO and UKAS AccreditationKnowledge of LEANKnowledge of control of change and change of management.Good communication skills, both written and oral.Knowledge of preparing and presenting reports.Experience in incident reporting, investigation, and monitoringEvidence of working as part of a team.Ability and experience in supervising and training other personnel.Ability to work safely in a hazardous environment with potential exposure to and presence of toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, radioactive, and other tissue-destructive chemicals, bacterial cultures, wastewater, and physical hazards.
