OverviewReporting to the Service Line Manager/ Nurse Manager, the Senior Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualized nursing care provided to patients and their family members according to current best-evidence based standards, using best judgement within their designated clinical area at all times in alignment with DOH/DHA and the organizations policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. The Senior Registered Nurse must also deliver direct patient care whilst, coordinating and overseeing nursing practice, with the ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service. The Senior Registered Nurse is responsible to deputize for the Line Manager in their absence, driving forward evidence based practice and taking responsibility for the supervision of staff and the policies and practices that operate within their clinical area.Responsibilities
  • Assesses, plans and implements nursing care for each patients condition while taking into consideration socioeconomic and cultural factors to ensure providing positive patient experience and medical care.
  • Perform all nursing documentations in line with set guidelines.
  • Performs accurate visual acuity assessment on patients in line with set guidelines.
  • Acts as a phlebotomist by drawing blood samples via venipuncture while ensuring optimal patient and personal safety and security.
  • Ensures the safe and proper handling, labelling and delivery of all specimens (urine, blood samples etc.) to pathology and follows up on the results.
  • Performs glucometers tests in an effective manner to analyze and interpret patients blood glucose levels.
  • Performs electro-cardiogram (ECG/EKG) tests in a safe and effective manner and ensures patients are briefed on the process prior to conducting the test.
  • Instils mydriatic eye drops if and when requested in a safe and effective manner and in line with medical policies regarding indications and contraindications.
  • Accurately calculates drug doses for administration as per the unique prescription of each patient.
  • Arranges referrals to other medical caregivers for further examination, diagnosis and/or treatment if required.
  • Participates in the revival of patients in the event of collapse or cardiac arrest if and when required.
  • Promptly informs the line manager, relevant Physician and concerned team members of any significant abnormalities detected during the patients assessment including blood pressure, pulse, blood glucose levels and urinary ketones and adheres to the relevant policies, procedures and guidelines regarding the optimal action to be taken.
  • Perform health promotion and education in line with patient needs.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment within the assessment area in accordance to the Infection Control procedures and standards.
  • Prioritizes caseload in accordance with primary healthcare principles and the available resources in order to ensure coverage of all cases.
  • To practise clinically, co-ordinating and supervising nursing. Ensuring that all patients have their needs assessed, that programmes of care are developed to meet these needs and are delivered in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
  • To be a competent practitioner, leading innovation and demonstrating clinical expertise. The postholder acts as a resource and advisor in their area of expertise to colleagues in other wards and departments throughout the hospital
  • To deliver all aspect of care relative to their patient group.
  • To assist the implementation and delivery of high quality care
  • To monitor and assist in the review of clinical standards and practice within their clinical area, with particular attention paid to the drive for evidence-based practice.
  • To be aware of the hospital and department Key performance indicators and support the Ward/ Department Manager in implementing the action plans to address areas for improvement.
QualificationsEducation
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
OR
  • Associate Degree in Nursing from Canada or USA with minimum 2 years course duration and successful completion of the National exam:
oUSA: NCLEX - RN
  • Canada: Licensing Exam
Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience post qualification
  • Proven leadership and team lead experience
Certification and Licensure
  • DOH/DHA Medical License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
