:1. JOB PURPOSE:Preparing Mechanical design concepts and studies as required and supervising/managing Mechanical designs carried out by external consultants.2. KEY RESULTS & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Experienced in Buildings, facilities, and projects.
Responsible for managing the Design Process to ensure that the designs comply with the objectives of the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector.
Ensure that all requirements have been explicitly and clearly specified and incorporated into the Project Requirements Document.
Monitor, manage and supervise Mechanical designs and planning issues to ensure design is cost effective, fit for purpose and value for money.
Manage and control design aspects and ensure that the correct level of services is chosen for each project.
Provide necessary supports to other Departments during post-contract stage for the best interest of the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector.
Ensure effective communication between the Engineer, contractor, third parties and stakeholders and that established communication procedures are followed to resolve any design issues.
Support and involvement in reviewing all design stages until the designs are approved as requested.
Identify the need for, develop and manage cost effective designs of new projects and refurbishment works.
Lead & manage the development of buildings/facilities context planning, utilities & infrastructure designs for new projects.
Contribute to the preparation of design concept, feasibility and master-plan design proposals to meet Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector objectives and consider external clients requirements.
Review of third-party design proposals for works to Corporate Administrative Support Services Sectors assets to assess compliance with established standards and check that they contribute to the achievement of Corporate Administrative Support Services Sectors goals.
Lead or contribute to the preparation of design management plans/conservation plans for listed and otherwise statutorily protected buildings.
Provide a professional, cost-effective technical advice service to other client Departments.
Lead & manage the procurement and works of Mechanical design consultants and contractors.
Lead, manage & review all mechanical designs of all the projects under construction and/or renovation/refurbishment.
Provide input to the project terms of reference & in the evaluation of the bidders.
Provide support to the development, implementation and maintenance of the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector Mechanical design standards and guidelines.
Coordinate design activities with developers and other projects affected by the planned works.
Assist in the prequalification of consultants & contractors as well as in the preparation of project plans, and specifications.
Manage the specifications of all mechanical works including but not limited to HVAC, firefighting, plumbing, infrastructure and utilities networks, public services connections, MEP equipments etc.
Lead & manage/review the maintenance & clearing systems and maintenance access proposed and to advise on the impact & suitability of these systems.
Ensure fire, health; safety and environmental regulation are adhered to in the design of new projects.
Ensure that the Mechanical designs are coordinated with structures, Architectural & other disciplines, to ensure that it is within client standards and local & international best practices.
Carry out inspection visits to sites to ensure that the work is according to the approved drawings & materials. To prepare and submit inspection report to the management when needed.
Review & approve methods statements submitted by the engineers/contractors.
Manage and facilitate design competitions held by the department.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position when appropriate.
Should be available on call 24/7
Requirements
Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized university required.
Minimum 3-7 years of experience in related fields.
Excellent knowledge and intensive experience in transport projects.
Excellent design and presentational skills, including use of CAD, PowerPoint, and freehand drafting.
