The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in mechanical design a strong background in composite design, manufacturing, and mechanical systems actuation to assist with development of advanced Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This role requires expertise in aerospace structural design, system integration, as well as proficiency in designing mechanical actuation systems, flight control surfaces, landing gear, and deployable structures.The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop high-performance UAV systems.Key Responsibilities:
Lead the conceptual and detailed design of UAV airframes, subsystems, and components with a focus on composite materials and lightweight structures.
Perform preliminary structural analysis, structural optimization, and weight management for UAV platforms.
Develop and oversee CAD models, drawings, BOMs and design documentation.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, avionics, and systems engineering.
Conduct feasibility studies.
Work closely with manufacturing teams, perform designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with aerospace standards.
Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and assist in knowledge transfer.
Support prototype development, testing, and validation of designs.
Ensure designs meet FAA, MIL-STD, or other aerospace regulatory requirements.
Oversee configuration management (CM) and version control for design data throughout the product lifecycle
Utilize Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems to manage design changes, documentation, and compliance.
Requirements:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the aerospace or UAV industry.
Expertise in mechanical aircraft structures, component design, and integration.
Extensive experience in composite structures design and manufacturing.
Proficiency in CATIA CAD software (SolidWorks experience is also considered)
Familiarity with GD&T, ASME Y14.5, and aerospace manufacturing processes.
Understanding of PLM principles, BOM management, and engineering change processes.
Excellent problem-solving skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and mentorship skills to guide junior engineers
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with VTOL, hybrid, or fixed-wing UAV designs.
Knowledge of FAA Part 107/Part 135, EASA UAV regulations, and MIL-STD requirements.
Knowledge of thermal and vibration analysis in aerospace applications.
Hands-on experience with UAV prototyping, flight testing, and system integration.
Project management or leadership experience in aerospace product development.
Familiarity with avionics, propulsion systems, and control systems.
