Job Title: MEP Design Engineer

Job Summary:

A MEP Design Engineer is responsible for the design and coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for various construction projects. They ensure that these systems meet performance, safety, and sustainability standards while integrating seamlessly with architectural and structural elements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. System Design: Design mechanical systems including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), plumbing systems, fire protection systems, and electrical systems (power distribution, lighting, communication, etc.) for building projects.

2. Technical Calculations: Perform technical calculations and analysis to ensure systems meet design specifications, codes, and regulatory requirements. This includes load calculations, energy modeling, and equipment sizing.

3. Coordination: Coordinate MEP designs with architectural and structural designs to ensure compatibility and integration. Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve design conflicts and optimize space utilization.

4. Material and Equipment Selection: Select appropriate materials, equipment, and systems based on project requirements, budget constraints, and environmental considerations. Evaluate and specify HVAC equipment, plumbing fixtures, electrical components, etc.

5. Code Compliance: Ensure designs comply with local, state, and national building codes, energy codes, and sustainability standards (LEED, Green Building certifications, etc.).

6. Drawing Preparation: Prepare detailed MEP drawings, schematics, and specifications using AutoCAD, Revit, or other design software. Review and modify drawings as necessary based on project revisions and feedback.

7. Construction Support: Provide technical support during the construction phase, including responding to requests for information (RFIs), conducting site inspections, and reviewing MEP installations to ensure adherence to design intent.

8. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and design documentation. Communicate design concepts and solutions effectively to clients, project teams, and regulatory authorities.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure may be required.

- Proficiency in MEP design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar tools.

- Knowledge of building codes, energy efficiency standards, and sustainable design practices.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

- Experience in MEP system design for commercial, residential, or industrial projects is preferred.
