We are dedicated to delivering exceptional experiences to our clients and end-users by providing secure, efficient, and user-friendly payment solutions.Position Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced and commercially astute Senior Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team in the UAE. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in providing comprehensive legal support across a wide spectrum of matters vital to our rapidly expanding fintech business. This is a generalist role requiring a strong legal mind capable of independently managing complex legal projects, providing strategic advice, and mentoring junior members of the team. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of commercial contracts, particularly within the fintech, payment, and financial services sectors.Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial Contracts: Lead the drafting, review, negotiation, and execution of a wide variety of complex commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, partnership agreements, licensing agreements, and service level agreements, with a focus on those relevant to the fintech, payment, and financial services industries.
  • Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice and support on a broad range of legal matters impacting the business, including commercial, corporate, consumer protection, intellectual property, data privacy, employment law and dispute resolution. This includes identifying and mitigating legal risks, developing and implementing internal policies and procedures, managing legal due diligence for strategic initiatives, and providing training to the business on relevant legal topics.
  • Regulatory: Advise on, monitor and assess the impact of evolving laws and regulations relevant to Tabby's operations in the UAE, particularly within the financial services, payments, and fintech sectors. Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Mentorship and Team Development: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior legal team members, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across various departments, including finance, compliance, operations, and product, to proactively identify and mitigate legal risks, support business initiatives, and provide strategic legal counsel.
  • External Counsel Management: Manage relationships with external counsel as required, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal services.
  • Special Projects: Independently manage and contribute to a variety of complex legal projects, including potential future strategic partnerships, corporate transactions, regulatory applications and new market entry initiatives.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken. Arabic language skills are desirable but not required.
  • Qualified lawyer with a valid license to practice law. Dual qualified candidates in both civil and common law jurisdictions are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum 5 years PQE, with experience gained within the legal department of a recognized multi-national company or at a top-tier international law firm.
  • Prior in-house legal experience in a generalist legal role within a fast-paced, dynamic environment, ideally in the UAE. Experience in the fintech industry is a plus.
  • Extensive experience in drafting, negotiating, and managing complex commercial contracts, particularly in the context of fintech, payments, or financial services.
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory law in relation to financial services. Specific knowledge of UAE laws and regulations in this domain is particularly desirable.
  • Keen understanding of business principles and able to apply legal knowledge pragmatically, considering the commercial context and providing solutions that support business growth and mitigate risk effectively.
  • Proven ability to work independently and autonomously, managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior legal professionals.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a keen eye for detail and a commercial mindset.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Team player with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal issues to both legal and non-legal audiences.
