Senior Lab Engineer is responsible to manage the functioning and development of labs within the GEU and to work closely with faculty to provide high quality technical support in labs.Job responsibilities include:
Manage the allocation of work and responsibilities to the assigned technical team
Direct the preparation of lab experiments as advised by the course faculty
Coordinate the set-up of required tools, and ensure calibration and proper functioning of equipment.
Instruct and demonstrate to students the proper techniques in lab safety, and use and operation of lab equipment.
Ensure work is carried out and performed to the required standards
Liaise with the faculty concerned to receive advice regarding course and final- year projects intended for students.
Study projects and ensure that all requirements are met.
Coordinate the preparation of appropriate work areas for students, set up the required tools, equipment, materials and test equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Contribute technical knowledge to the design, upgrade, and revision of experiments.
Monitor and maintain an organized, clean and safe working environment in labs and ensures compliance with work related legal, health and safety standards
Contribute to recruitment, training, development and performance appraisal of the assigned lab staff
Ensure stock of equipment and consumables within a pre-set level of expenditure
Liaise with faculty members to prepare orders for updating equipment to meet educational standards.
Support in budget preparation by highlighting resource requirements such as equipment, manpower and space
Perform other related duties such as maintaining and updating a data base on equipment catalogs, manuals, data books
Advise faculty and students on all aspects of technical support services
Work closely with direct supervisor to provide excellent lab services to faculty, students and researchers
Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly
Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed
Demonstrate a strong commitment and practice to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager
QualificationsBachelor's Degree in appropriate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering) disciplineRequired Experience
Expats: A minimum 7 years of relevant experience.
UAE Nationals: A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
