Job Responsibilities:
• Review and Analyze Project Plans
• Examine project blueprints, technical specifications, and other documents to determine the scope of work and necessary resources.
• Identify any potential risks or challenges and suggest alternatives to mitigate them.
• Cost Estimation
• Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates by calculating labor, materials, and overhead expenses.
• Use software tools or spreadsheets to generate estimates and track project costs.
• Estimate the time and labor required for each phase of the project.
• Consultation and Coordination
• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to gather detailed information and pricing for materials and services.
• Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to get competitive pricing for materials, labor, and services.
• Maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors to ensure reliable cost information.
• Prepare Bid Proposals
• Create and present detailed bid proposals that outline costs, timelines, and project deliverables.
• Ensure that bids comply with project specifications, legal requirements, and client expectations.
• Assist in the preparation of the tender submission and support the project management team during the bidding process.
• Budget and Cost Tracking
• Develop project budgets and ensure that the estimate aligns with financial goals.
• Monitor costs throughout the project lifecycle and provide regular updates on cost overruns or savings.
• Adjust estimates and budgets based on changes in project scope or unforeseen issues.
• Site Visits and Assessments
• Conduct site visits to assess the project location, understand environmental or site-specific factors, and validate information from drawings.
• Collect data to inform estimates, including local material costs and labor availability.
• Risk Management and Cost Control
• Identify potential risks that could impact project costs or schedules, such as delays or shortages of materials.
• Recommend strategies to mitigate risks and reduce overall project costs.
• Provide Recommendations for Process Improvement
• Suggest improvements or cost-saving measures during the project to optimize resources and increase efficiency.
• Review past project estimates and performance to identify areas for improvement in future estimates.
• Ensure Timely and Accurate Estimates
• Ensure that all estimates are completed in a timely manner and submitted before deadlines.
• Double-check estimates for accuracy and completeness, ensuring that they are competitive yet realistic.
• Industry Knowledge and Continuing Education
• Stay informed on industry trends, new materials, technologies, and changes in building codes.
• Attend industry conferences, seminars, or training to continuously improve estimating skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Experience:
• 2+ years of experience in construction estimating or a related field.
• Experience with cost estimation software is a plus.
• Skills:
• Strong math and analytical skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other estimating tools.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
• Knowledge:
• Understanding of construction methods, materials, and costs.
• Familiarity with industry standards and local building codes.
• Communication:
• Good communication skills for interacting with clients, contractors, and team members.
• Attention to Detail:
• Ability to produce accurate and detailed estimates.
• Time Management:
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
