To administer and manage Relational Database Management Systems (RDMS), mainly Oracle and other databases, used by various administrative applications.
Provide efficient and reliable administration and maintenance to the Relational Database management Systems that enable the end users to smoothly utilize the database.
The Responsibilities
Individually and as part of a team undertakes Relational Database Management Systems installation, database configuration and support of new and existing applications confirming the business objectives of the University.
Individually and as part of a team undertakes installation, configuration and support for Oracle Application Server hosting web based modules of Banner and HRIS.
Establishes and maintains database and application Security.
Establishes and verifies database backup and disaster recovery plans.
Configures and maintains distributed database over client-server and open systems environments.
Provides technical support inclusive of systems programming to application development teams and users, including personnel in Finance, Budget, Inventory, Human Resources and Purchasing.
Maintain and manage the databases on Disaster Recovery site including the automatic transfer and application of Data Archives.
Ensures hardware and software components of the RDBMS adequacy and compatibility with respect to applications and user needs.
Works with application teams to define, develop and implement user access to administrative systems.
Responsible to manage Oracle Sun Servers and Oracle ZFS SAN storage.
Responsible to manage Banner Security module.
Develops and maintains distributed databases across integrated networks to facilitate user query and reporting needs.
Establishes and maintains appropriate development environments to maximize resource usage and minimize impact on real-time use response.
Works with other members of CSD team to design and implement routine maintenance activities and optimize job scheduling.
Monitors, tunes and maintains database to ensure data integrity, data consistency and optimum database and application performance.
Reduces or eliminates unnecessary or redundant data storage. Works with members of IT team to optimize desk storage.
Facilitates data sharing among users, environments and applications as appropriate.
Establishes and maintains database dictionaries.
Defines and implements regular database backups. Works with members of CSD team to develop contingency plans for administrative systems. Plans and implements database and application disaster recovery activities.
Develops and documents standards for use, control, updating and maintenance of databases.
Provides ongoing consulting and troubleshooting support on all new and existing standard administrative systems.
Participates in necessary hardware, system software, application software and other training necessary to support administrative systems.
Responsible for support, backups and availability for Millennium Library Application.
Performs other duties as assigned by direct manager.
The Requirements
Must possess a bachelors degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or a related field and a minimum of 7 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other essential requirements:
Experience with ORACLE RDBMS, and Application Development Tools in Digital Equipment Corporation Alpha VMS/UNIX and Windows AD environment- a must
Development of applications in client-server environments using graphical interfaces preferred. Installation and maintenance of distributed databases across multiple platforms. Experience with MS SQL server a plus
