Key Responsibilities
• VAT Compliance and Reporting :
• VAT Returns : Overseeing and ensuring accurate preparation and timely submission of VAT returns to tax authorities.
• VAT Audits : Managing VAT audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
• VAT Structuring : Advising the business on VAT-efficient structures, including international VAT planning and cross-border VAT issues.
• VAT Advisory : Providing VAT advice on transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings, to ensure proper VAT treatment.
• VAT Registration : Coordinating VAT registrations in various jurisdictions where the company operates.
• Corporate Tax Compliance :
• Tax Returns : Overseeing the preparation and submission of corporate income tax returns.
• Transfer Pricing : Ensuring that the organization complies with transfer pricing regulations for intercompany transactions.
• Tax Reporting : Preparing tax provision calculations in accordance with local and international accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, US GAAP).
• Tax Audits : Managing corporate tax audits and tax authority inquiries.
• Tax Planning : Advising on tax-efficient strategies for business operations, such as tax credits, deductions, and incentives.
• Strategy and Advisory :
• Tax Strategy Development : Assisting with the development and implementation of the company's tax strategy, including optimizing tax liabilities, identifying opportunities for tax savings, and managing risks.
• M&A and Restructuring : Providing tax structuring advice during mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other corporate restructuring activities.
• International Tax Issues : Dealing with international tax matters, including cross-border tax planning, double taxation treaties, and VAT implications in foreign markets.
• Team Leadership and Stakeholder Management :
• Managing a Team : Leading and mentoring a team of junior tax professionals and VAT specialists.
• Stakeholder Communication : Collaborating with internal stakeholders such as finance, legal, and operational teams, as well as external advisors and tax authorities.
• Training and Development : Providing training to internal staff on tax and VAT matters to enhance compliance and awareness.
• Risk Management :
• Tax Risk Identification : Identifying and managing corporate tax risks and proposing mitigation strategies.
• Compliance Monitoring : Ensuring compliance with both local and international tax laws to minimize the risk of penalties or audits.
Skills and Qualifications
• Tax Expertise : In-depth knowledge of VAT and corporate tax laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
• Accounting Knowledge : Understanding of accounting principles (e.g., IFRS, GAAP) and how they relate to tax reporting.
• Project Management : Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders effectively.
• Communication Skills : Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially when liaising with tax authorities or senior management.
• Team Leadership : Experience managing teams, providing mentorship, and fostering a collaborative working environment.
• Problem Solving : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to devise creative solutions to complex tax issues.
Education and Experience
• Education : A degree in Accounting, Finance, Law, or a related field is typically required. A Master's degree or professional qualifications (such as ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent) can be advantageous.
• Experience : Typically 5-10 years of experience in VAT and corporate tax, with a strong background in both compliance and advisory roles. Experience in managing tax matters across multiple jurisdictions is often preferred.
• Industry Knowledge : Experience in the industry in which the organization operates (e.g., financial services, retail, manufacturing) can be beneficial, as it may provide insight into the specific tax issues faced in that sector.
