We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated research scientist with a keen interest in performing cutting-edge research in autonomous vehicles (AVs) with a background in Multi-Agent Planning and Reasoning and Deep Reinforcement Learning (RL). The objective is to develop theoretical and empirical frameworks to synthesize multi-agent planners, controllers and coordination schemes that are robust against non-determinism due to parameter uncertainty and disturbances in the environment. In view of real-world nuances and sensing errors, the aim is to develop robust planning and scheduling algorithms that tolerate noisy parameters. One potential direction is multi-agent RL with function approximators and Monte Carlo Tree Search (MTS) while ensuring proper handling of uncertainty in the environment. The candidate should be able to analyze the algorithms' performance both theoretically and empirically.The candidate will be supported by 1-2 PhD students if required. As part of the project, the researcher will have access to state-of-the-art research equipment and facilities at the Autonomous Vehicles Lab and will get an opportunity to work alongside researchers and graduate students from various backgrounds as part of a wider team. Affinity for turning complex concepts into real-world solutions Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly Coordinates day to day operations of the assigned laboratory and the assigned laboratory staff Ensures work is carried out and performed to the required standards Supports in lab instruction, when required Contributes to recruitment, training, development and performance appraisal of the assigned lab staff Supports in identifying and purchasing of lab equipment, following consultation with appropriate faculty and working closely with procurement/facilities management/ finance departments Supports in budget preparation by highlighting resource requirements such as equipment, manpower, and space Advises faculty and students on all aspects of technical support services Works closely with direct supervisor to provide excellent lab services to faculty, students and researchersQualificationsQualifications - ExternalPhD Degree in Computer Science & Engineering or a related field Technical hands-on experience and knowledge in the field of interest, deep RL, multiagent systems, and preferably a background in robust optimization Research active: Publications in top venues in the field (top 10% Journals, and top conferences such AAAI, AAMAS, ICRA, IROS, IJCAI, ICML, to name a few) Solid inclination to deploy, test, and demo the results in a timely manner Solid programming skills Desirable: background in Robotics Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written) Ability to work both independently and as part of a team The proven ability to work on multiple tasks with competing demands and deadlines. PhD gained from a top 200 QS or THE ranked University At least 2 years of relevant experience as a post-doctoral researcher in academia or in industry.
