The Physics Department at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a Research Assistant position under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Belfkir. Dr. Belfkir\'s primary research focuses on searching for double Higgs boson production with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and developing machine learning algorithms to enhance the experimental potential. The current project aims to develop an advanced machine-learning algorithm to improve photon identification efficiencies for Run-3 ATLAS data-taking. The successful candidate will use Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) techniques to integrate low-level detector information from the Electromagnetic Calorimeter detector, thus enhancing photon identification for major ATLAS analyses during Run-3. A grant supports this position and is available for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.
Minimum Qualification
Master of Science degree in Physics, Data Science, or a related field.
Preferred Qualification
Master in Data science
Expected Skills
Strong background in Physics. Proficiency in Python programming. Experience with machine learning, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs).
