Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Participates in triage and initial examination of obstetrical patients', assigned responsibility for care, treatment and delivery of patients.
• Prepares the birthing suits and assists in NSVD including Forceps and Vacuum delivery under aseptic technique.
• Performs deliveries independently in case of emergency situations as per the scope of practice.
• Performs obstetric examinations and communicate the findings to obstetrician when required.
• When deviations from standards are encountered during labor process administers stipulated emergency measures and informs obstetrician immediately.
• Monitor mother and fetus throughout the delivery phase and initiate fetal heart tone monitoring, performs vaginal exam, interpret fetal heart tones and determine frequency, duration and intensity of contractions.
• Demonstrates competency in fetal heart tone monitoring and if any deviations, report immediately to the treating obstetrician.
• Assist anesthesiologists in administration of epidural analgesia and monitor the patient as per the policy.
• Prepares for Elective or Emergency Caesarian Section as ordered and complete necessary documents for smooth transfer of patient for surgery.
• Participates in the pre-natal and post-natal teaching on health practices including exercises and relaxation techniques.
• Performs postpartum care and provide health education to mother, checking the lochia, episiotomy and fundus, provide instruction in newborn care, breast feeding and self-care to mother, and monitor vital signs as per the policy.
• Competence in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Advanced Life Support and participates as a member of Code Blue team hospital wide.
• Plans, implements and evaluates care given to assigned patient in an effective and organized manner.
• Predominant role in medication preparation, administration, documentation and monitoring of patients for any adverse reactions.
• Demonstrate competencies in intravenous cannulation and intravenous fluid administration, blood transfusion and blood collection.
• Performs competency in high alert medications, storage and administration as per the policy.
• Responsible for maintaining crash cart and critical equipment's as per the hospital protocol.
• Meets or exceeds all continuing education requirements for maintaining licensure to practice nursing in accordance with regulatory standards.
• Responsible for the supervision of practical nurses and collaborate with multidisciplinary team as required.
• Perform the task assigned by the head nurse / shift in charge and reports adverse events to head nurse / nursing supervisor.
• Demonstrate competency in prioritizing in health education and maintaining patient's record.
• Follows the reporting mechanisms / chain of command in the nursing services department. All patient care issues shall be correctly and promptly reported.
• Provides for the physical, psychological and social needs of patient and their families.
• Performs a wide range of nursing procedures with attention to accuracy, patient safety and comfort, including those requiring strict aseptic technique
• Responsible for appropriate storage and maintaining inventory of medication including high alert medicate and Narcotic as per the hospital policy.
• Complies with established Departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient's record and ensure that patients' rights and responsibilities are communicated appropriately and maintains patient's safety and privacy.
• Takes responsibility for professional clinical practice and actively involved in continuing education provided by the Nursing Education Department.
• Act as a patient advocate and provide health education and support to patient and families.
OSH ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible to be familiarize, comply and implement the OSHAD-SF& NMCSH Al Ain Internal OSHMS policies and procedures/SOP's relevant to their department.
Employees:

• Staff should notify/report all OSHMS hazards, incidents, accidents and near misses within the premises of NMCSH Al Ain to their supervisor or department OSH Facilitator as per the incident reporting protocol of NMCSH Al Ain.
• Staff are responsible to assist with the preparation of departmental risk assessment activities and implement the control measure within the timeframe.
• Staff are responsible to attend applicable department OSHMS training.
• Staff are not allowed to tamper or misuse any NMCSH Al Ain equipment's and its property.
• Comply with all OSH instructions, safe working procedures and signages within the premises of NMCSH-Al Ain.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedure.
• Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone's health and safety;
• Make proper use of all machinery, tools, substances, etc., safety systems and of all Personal Protective Equipment provided for use at work.
• Participate in required OSH inspection, audit and OSH monitoring programs.
Midwives:

• Assist doctors in patient care during manual handling and follows manual handling principles.
• Using proper body mechanics when lifting, pushing wheelchairs or otherwise working with patients;
• Reducing risks for slips, trips or falls by removing obstacles, and wearing shoes that Support your feet and your walking;
• Ensure that equipment is safe to use and report any malfunctions in a timely manner.
• Initiates emergency, safety practices and fire safety measures as appropriate.
ADHICS

• Adhere to information systems policies and procedures as required by Health Care Organization.
• Ensure that documentation in the health record reflects accuracy, integrity and authenticity
• Follow security and privacy policies and procedures to the use of networks, including intranet and Internet.
• Follow confidentiality and security measures to protect electronic health information.
• Maintain data integrity and validity within an information system.
• Report any possible breaches of confidentiality in accordance with organizational policies.
• Apply departmental and organizational data and information system security policies
• Use basic word processing, spreadsheet and desktop presentation applications as applicable to your work.
• Demonstrate proficiency in Windows operating environment.
• Demonstrate use of email, addressing, forwarding, attachments, netiquette

QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL SKILLS:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing/Diploma in Nursing & Midwifery.
• Current license in country of origin, with DOH license to practice in Al Ain, UAE.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in clinical area with at least 2 years' experience as Incharge or equivalent grade in relevant clinical area.
• BLS provider
• Demonstrates sound decision-making and leadership skills.
• Must be fluent in spoken and written English. Arabic speaking is desirable but not essential
