This position serves as the key legal resource for DB Schenker's Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, focusing on providing strategic and operational legal advice across all legal matters. While based in Dubai, the Regional General Counsel will maintain close collaboration with other legal counsel/s in the region. As part of the Regional Management Team, the role will also contribute to the strategic direction of DB Schenker's MEA operations.

Responsibilities:

Legal Advisory:



• Provide strategic and operational legal counsel to DB Schenker's MEA operations on all legal matters, primarily related to purchasing, logistics, forwarding, transportation law, and transport liability but also on labor law, merger & acquisitions, and real estate.
• Collaborate with DB Schenker country managers and business units across the region to address legal issues and advise on contractual matters.
• Manage legal disputes and casework for the region in a hands-on, pragmatic manner, seeking efficient and effective solutions (cases other than the insured cargo claims).
• Assist with commercial work, including assessing and vetting logistics contracts, NDAs, and bad debt recovery across the region.

Contract Management:



• Review and approve all (non-standard) customer and supplier contracts for DB Schenker entities across the region.
• Ensure adherence to DB Schenker's Contract Review Policy and approval processes.

Special Projects:



• Merger & acquisitions (set-up of branches etc.)
• Coordinate and deliver legal training programs for DB Schenker personnel across the region.

Collaboration:



• Maintain close working relationships and liaise regularly with the Compliance, Insurance, and Data Protection departments to ensure alignment on legal matters and risk mitigation strategies.
• Liaise with corresponding departments at Schenker Head Office.



• Minimum 5 years of prior legal experience in areas relevant to the position, with a strong understanding of legal frameworks across the MEA region.
• Excellent English drafting skills for legal documents (letters and contracts).
• Experience with international customer and supplier contracts.
• In-depth knowledge of commercial law principles.
• Ability to balance a robust defense of the company's legal interests with diplomatic communication.
• Proven ability to be a hands-on troubleshooter, effectively diagnosing and resolving complex legal issues.
• Pragmatic approach to problem-solving, focusing on practical and achievable solutions.
• Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with senior management and internal departments.
• Willingness to travel throughout the MEA region as needed.
• Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Arabic fluency is an advantage, but not an absolute requirement.
