Job Overview TE Connectivity's R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.
Tasks Summary and Responsibilities
Reports directly to the Product Engineering Supervisor or Team Leader. Management: Participates in the Annual Performance Review. May be required to take technical responsibility for a project under supervision. May be required to manage technical aspects with suppliers. Technical: As a Technician for the development of new products or for maintaining existing products, proposes technical solutions for connectivity products that will ensure the functions requested by the customer while respecting the specifications in terms of: Design: Feasibility, compliance with standards and procedures. Quality: Recommends products that will meet the customer's expected performance. Deadlines: Completes design projects within negotiated deadlines. Cost: Creates based on an objective cost price. Contributes to the final success of the sale. He/she creates technical solutions, CAD models, detailed plans, and assembly and sub-assembly plans, based on an overall plan, diagram, or specifications: Executes the various plans and diagrams necessary for the preparation of a technical file. Studies the technical feasibility of proposed solutions, the constraints imposed by Tool and Die and Manufacturing Engineering. Uses standards, knowledge of manufacturing techniques, and materials used for part definition. Establishes functional dimensions and related functional analyses (tolerance stack-ups). Performs strength of materials calculations for part sizing. Requests Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and participates in the selection of the chosen solution. Establishes bills of materials. In strict compliance with the standards and specifications of the customer order, executes detailed part plans and final plans: Works in compliance with the procedures in force within TE applicable to product development and customer standards. Respects the approach: design to cost, design reuse Participates in Product FMEA and Design Reviews. Writes technical documents associated with product development, including product specifications, packaging specifications, and recommendation documents... Must ensure that TE's intellectual property is preserved in all circumstances, particularly by not disclosing any innovative principles to customers without prior confidentiality agreement (NDA) and by filing a patent application dossier. Must ensure that any innovative idea is subject to a patent application request to TE's IP EMEA management. Participates in product qualification, particularly through metrology analysis, test follow-up Decides on the conformity of parts to specifications. Must ensure proper project documentation management under PLM PDMLINK (Central program) ensuring compliance with filing rules. Participates in the development of the PPAP file. Monitors the life cycle of developed products, proposes and monitors improvements, formalizes product modifications in the EC Tec system. Monitors duplications, replacements, and transfers of production means and formalizes the approval of means in the TE "PRODUCTION RELEASE" system. May be required to participate in working groups with customers. May be a tester of Beta versions of CAD software and/or engineering data management. May be required to write technical publications. Various meetings and trips to ensure: Project meetings, program follow-up. Quality meetings. Feasibility review FMEA meeting Occasional trips in France and internationally: Customers and internal and external suppliers Functional liaisons with: Technical Director Engineering Director Group Leader Engineering Department: other engineers, technicians Costing Quality Department, AQE, Marketing, Purchasing, Lab, Industrialization
