Job Description

Responsibilities of an HSE Manager in Electrical Infrastructure Projects

• Development and Implementation of Safety Policies:
• Formulate, update, and enforce HSE policies, procedures, and standards.
• Ensure compliance with local, national, and international safety regulations.
• Risk Assessment and Management:
• Conduct regular risk assessments and hazard identification.
• Implement mitigation strategies to minimize workplace risks.
• Monitor and evaluate safety risks associated with electrical works.
• Safety Training and Awareness:
• Develop and deliver HSE training programs for all project personnel.
• Promote safety awareness through workshops, seminars, and daily briefings.
• Ensure all employees are adequately trained in emergency response procedures.
• Inspection and Audit:
• Perform regular site inspections to ensure adherence to HSE standards.
• Conduct internal audits and participate in external HSE audits.
• Document findings and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Incident Investigation and Reporting:
• Lead investigations into accidents, near-misses, and incidents.
• Compile detailed reports and maintain accurate records of incidents.
• Recommend and oversee the implementation of preventive measures.
• Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure project activities comply with all relevant HSE legislation.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies and ensure timely submission of required reports.
• Emergency Preparedness and Response:
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans.
• Coordinate emergency drills and ensure readiness of emergency response teams.
• Act as the point of contact for emergency services during incidents.
• Environmental Protection:
• Implement measures to minimize environmental impact of project activities.
• Monitor environmental compliance and address any deviations promptly.
• Promote sustainable practices and waste management.
• Health and Wellbeing Programs:
• Develop programs to promote health and wellbeing among project staff.
• Ensure availability of first aid and medical support on-site.
• Address occupational health hazards and implement preventive measures.
• Stakeholder Engagement:
• Engage with project stakeholders on HSE matters.
• Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, and other parties regarding safety expectations.
• Promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications for HSE Manager in Electrical Infrastructure Projects

• Educational Background:
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• A Master's degree or higher qualification in a relevant discipline is advantageous.
• Professional Certifications:
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), NEBOSH International General Certificate, or equivalent.
• ISO 45001 Lead Auditor or similar certification in safety management systems.
• Additional certifications in electrical safety, such as NFPA 70E, are highly desirable.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in HSE management, preferably in the electrical or construction industry.
• Proven track record in managing safety in large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, and safety training.
• Knowledge and Skills:
• In-depth knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and best practices in the electrical industry.
• Strong understanding of electrical hazards and control measures.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Proficient in the use of HSE management software and tools.
• Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
• Leadership and Management Abilities:
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate others.
• Experience in leading HSE teams and managing cross-functional relationships.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Regulatory Compliance:
• Thorough understanding of local, national, and international HSE regulations applicable to electrical projects.
• Ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
