The Processing Engineering Manager will be a highly experienced mining industry executive capable of taking a copper-gold project through design review, feasibility study, commissioning phases, and the operational phase. The role covers the feasibility study, commissioning and operation of the processing plant, laboratory, water supply, and concentrate handling areas and all associated infrastructure.
The role requires previous experience in metallurgical work, metallurgical process selection, development of engineering for the processing plant, equipment selection, commissioning, ramp-up, and operation of mineral processing plants, preferably base metals and gold. The role requires a history of achievement in these mineral processing industries. The incumbent will also need skills in working with multi-cultural work groups and be able to communicate effectively with many diverse cultural teams.
Manage the project process discipline developed by the feasibility study and consultants, interacting, reviewing, and approving technical documents to ensure focus is maintained on providing a quality processing plant.
Build a Production plan and budget for commissioning and early operating phases.
Build a cost budget, including all costs associated with the process plant (power, reagents, maintenance, salaries, and on-costs).
Operational Readiness for the Process Plant
Routine reporting plan in place, notify significant variations to management team.
Champion risk-based management of HSEC for the Process team. Lead initiatives for hazard identification and risk reduction such as HAZOPs, risk assessments, inspections
Playing a strategic role in transforming the business unit
Defining and aligning the plant strategy with the strategic business intent
Handling emergency situations and general management functions
Liaising with stakeholders around new technologies of different commodities
Leading and directing the productivity of the unit operations as assigned interpreting and understanding design drawings and making recommendations;
Making manufacturing time-critical decisions Developing and implementing quality standards in manufacturing and finishing;
Taking responsibility for health and safety issues of staff and components in manufacturing;
Doing Metallurgical or process analysis using sophisticated Metallurgical
computer software;
Writing documents, manuals, metallurgical investigations, and reports in support of customer liaison;
Discussing different solutions to problems with other technical staff;
Interpreting customers' manufacturing design requirements and product application;
Design review and commissioning process design and equipment
HSE Responsibilities:
Ensure that all HSE instructions are fully understood and complied with.
Must lead the HSE standards on-site during construction and commissioning and ensure that everyone understands and follows the standards and procedures.
Must demonstrate total commitment to the companys safety policies through participation and proactive involvement.
Must ensure that all relevant safety procedures and practices are followed during performing operations.
Responsible for reporting HSE incidents, near misses and violations to the immediate supervisor or through safety system software as appropriate.
Responsible for participating in safety meetings and safety drills held on board and ensuring operations abide by established/HSE operating procedures and practices and equipment is used within predetermined capacities.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering.
Minimum 20 years experience in mining process plant, including at least 8 years in management of similar processing plants
Special Skills Experience with feasibility study, metallurgical tests, and commissioning processing plants in the mineral processing industry, particularly in projects of greater than 8,000 tpd feed rate
Demonstrated organizational Skills for leading a team, including budgeting, recruitment, liaising with suppliers and mentoring of the team.
Proven leadership ability, drive and commitment.
Effective relationship-building skills with internal teams and external suppliers and contractors.
Articulate and clear writing style, with proven experience of writing internal communications.
Capability to interact with organizations at the highest level
