Overview:
The Principal Welding Engineer will be responsible for managing and overseeing welding operations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications in offshore oil and gas projects. This role requires expertise in welding techniques, material compatibility, and corrosion prevention, along with leadership in managing welding activities across multiple EPC projects.
Responsibilities:
Lead the development of welding procedures, specifications, and qualifications for EPC offshore projects.
Oversee welding activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and industry standards (NACE, ASME, API, ISO, DNV, NORSOK).
Provide expert guidance on welding techniques, material compatibility, and selection for corrosion resistance.
Develop and review welding documentation, including WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications) and PQR (Procedure Qualification Records).
Monitor welding quality through inspections, testing, and audits, and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
Ensure that welding operations are aligned with client requirements and project schedules.
Act as a technical authority on welding matters and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
Stay updated with advancements in welding technologies and techniques, ensuring best practices are followed.
Train and mentor junior engineers and welding personnel.
Interface with clients, vendors, and third-party inspectors to ensure welding quality and performance are maintained. Education:
BE or MSc in Engineering for Materials and Corrosion / Material Science. Certifications / Specialization / IT Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Strong knowledge of welding standards and software tools related to welding.
Certification in welding engineering (e.g., AWS, CSWIP) is highly preferred. Years of Experience:
Minimum 15 years of experience in a similar position, within an EPC company. Technical Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of welding procedures, techniques, and standards for offshore projects.
Expertise in materials and corrosion science, with specific experience in welding applications for corrosion prevention.
Familiarity with international welding standards (NACE, ASME, API, ISO, DNV, NORSOK) and proven track record in offshore EPC projects.
