Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Principal Technical Specialist - Traffic Engineering and Transportation Planning to join our team! In this role you will get to work closely with the leadership of Traffic Engineering team to provide specialized knowledge and leadership across large-scale transportation infrastructure projects, integrating advanced traffic engineering, public transit planning, and smart mobility solutions
What You'll Be Doing:
• Provide specialized technical support for the planning, design, and implementation of traffic engineering projects, covering a wide array of areas such as signal optimization, intersection design, traffic control systems, public transit, soft mobility, and active transport (walking and cycling) solutions.
• Assist the Traffic Engineering leadership in developing strategic project designs and specifications and ensuring adherence to technical quality standards across multimodal transportation projects.
• Develop and assess traffic modeling, simulations, and multimodal transportation analysis to support project decision-making, utilizing software tools such as Synchro, VISSIM, AIMSUN, and other relevant transit planning models.
• Support the integration of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), adaptive traffic systems, and smart mobility solutions, such as connected vehicle technologies and real-time transit management systems, to enhance the efficiency of transportation networks.
• Contribute to public transit planning and design, including optimizing bus routes, coordinating with transit agencies, and enhancing transit facilities to improve urban mobility and reduce congestion.
• Collaborate with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure that projects incorporate soft mobility and active transport management principles, such as pedestrian safety, bicycle infrastructure, and connections to public transit hubs.
• Conduct feasibility studies, traffic impact analyses, and multi-modal transportation assessments for major developments, ensuring designs meet local standards and address the needs of all users, including non-motorized modes of transportation.
• Coordinate closely with project teams, stakeholders, and government agencies to align project objectives with regional and local transportation planning goals, promoting sustainable and inclusive transport solutions.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations, reports, and documentation for client and public engagement meetings, effectively communicating the benefits of integrated, multimodal transportation systems.
• Support pre-contract efforts by providing subject matter expertise and assisting in proposal preparation, technical evaluations, and presentations.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, providing technical guidance in all areas of traffic engineering and transportation planning, and promoting a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field.
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, or related projects, with an emphasis on both traffic management and public transit integration.
• Extensive knowledge of traffic simulation and analysis software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, AIMSUN) as well as tools relevant to transit planning and active transportation design.
• Proven ability to implement Intelligent Transportation Systems and smart city initiatives within complex urban environments, including integration with public transit operations.
• Strong understanding of traffic engineering standards, local regulations, and international best practices in multi-modal transportation planning.
Demonstrable experience in integrating active transport solutions and soft mobility measures, such as pedestrian and bicycle planning, into urban projects.

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
• Master's degree in Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer registration.
• Strong experience in public agency coordination, stakeholder engagement, and managing relationships with transit authorities and government entities.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical material effectively to clients, stakeholders, and the public, fostering a shared understanding of integrated, sustainable transport systems.
• Experience in transportation demand management (TDM) strategies to reduce congestion and improve mobility options.
• Ability to mentor and train junior staff in areas of multi-modal transport, ensuring knowledge transfer across all aspects of traffic engineering and transportation planning.
• Familiarity with sustainable urban mobility concepts, including complete streets, shared mobility, and first/last mile solutions.
