This research will focus on the hydrodynamics of propulsion systems that leverage starting jets, a mechanism where impulsive jet formation contributes to thrust generation, mimicking biological propulsion observed in aquatic animals. The work aims to develop innovative propulsion concepts for underwater vehicles that are highly efficient, quiet, and capable of precise maneuvering. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team specializing in fluid mechanics, propulsion systems, and applied hydrodynamics. This role will involve performing high-fidelity simulations and theoretical modeling to better understand the starting jet phenomenon and its potential applications to the design of next-generation underwater vehicles. This research is significant for various applications, including marine exploration, defense, and autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) development. This postdoctoral position offers access to world-class research facilities and computational resources at Khalifa University, with opportunities for collaboration with leading experts in the field of fluid dynamics and aerospace propulsion systems.
