Payroll Accountant (temporary – 3 Months)

Job Description

Job Summary:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Payroll Accountant proficient in Excel and data management to join our finance team. The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for managing and processing payroll activities, ensuring accurate and timely payroll transactions, and maintaining compliance with relevant policies and regulations. This role requires strong Excel skills for data analysis, reporting, and reconciliation, as well as a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

1. Payroll Processing and Administration:

- Prepare, process, and verify payroll transactions in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.

- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll adjustments, terminations, new hires, and other payroll-related changes.

2. Data Management and Reporting:

- Utilize advanced Excel functions (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, macros) to manage payroll data, conduct analysis, and generate reports for internal stakeholders.

- Reconcile payroll data to ensure consistency and accuracy between internal records and payroll systems.

3. Compliance and Record Maintenance:

- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, such as tax withholding and wage laws.

- Maintain payroll records and documentation, ensuring secure and confidential storage and adherence to data retention policies.

4. Reconciliation and Audit Support:

- Reconcile payroll accounts and investigate discrepancies, providing resolutions as needed.

- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing required payroll data and supporting documentation.

Qualifications:

- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

- Experience:

- 2+ years of experience in payroll accounting or related role.

- Proven expertise in Excel (pivot tables, formulas, VLOOKUP, data analysis) and data management.

- Technical Skills:

- Strong knowledge of payroll software and systems.

- Familiarity with payroll laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.

- Soft Skills:

- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

- Effective communication skills and ability to work with sensitive data discreetly.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience with automated payroll systems or ERP platforms.
