An Overhaul Workshop Manager (Operations Support) will lead, organize and manage the day-to-day activities of the Workshop operational areas in order to support the company's commercial and operational requirements and ensure optimum deployment of resources to achieve efficient, safe and cost effective results. Manage all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance requirements within the Workshop operational areas, liaising closely, as appropriate, with Line Maintenance / Base Operation, Base Heavy Maintenance and Engine shop on the appropriate Workshop support requirements and deadlines.In this role, you will:
Be responsible for supporting the Engine shop, Line Maintenance, Base Operations and Base Heavy Maintenance program including C Checks and Cabin Retrofits by managing the repairs and overhaul of components, NDT inspections and Structures, ensuring quality standards and turn-around-time deadlines are met. Forecast requirements for future maintenance inputs and make the necessary provisions to allow for timely handling and completion. Maintain operational obligations by ensuring optimum deployment of resources in accordance with the task requirements, ensuring all targets and deadlines are achievable.
Evaluate the current processes for efficiency and plan and suggest any amendments required to the procedures, deficiencies and safety issues and suggest where improvements can be implemented to improve the overall productivity and quality. Develop and recommend to the Manager Overhaul Workshops (MOW), plans to increase productivity and capability in the affected Workshops highlighting savings and costs on a case by case basis and implement changes to processes and procedures.
Develop and maintain close working relationships with various departments including Engine shop, Line Maintenance, Base Operations, Base Heavy Maintenance, Maintenance Planning, Production Planning, Maintenance Control, Technical Services and the Materials Department, so as to be able to liaise as and when necessary, ensuring the achievement of tasks within a time-scale so as to not have any impact on the down time and /or the quality of the finished product. Plan and liaise with the stores and equipment technician to ensure the materials are available and equipment is serviceable for the task and any shortages that will impact the targeted dates. Devise an alternative plan to work around any short fall so as to not delay the inputs.
Provide detailed justification to the affected MOW for manpower increases identifying all benefits and alternate options.
Provide support and advice to all staff on technical/operational matters within the workshop area and to other departments of Emirates (i.e. Service Delivery, Customer Affairs etc.) as required.
Carry out audits of various activities and document findings to establish trends and recommend to the appropriate MOW, the necessary plans to counteract any issues.
Produce monthly reports detailing the activities that have been taking place within each section of the Workshops operational areas. To include average TRT, Number of components completed, number of components in work, details of delay or shortages, staff training, overtime & lieu hours worked and sickness levels.
Maintain the highest quality standards by constantly ensuring staff under direct control are aware of all technical publications and revisions and maintain a `Read and Sign; register to reflect the same. Conduct quality circle programmes engaging staff from all grades in an effort to identify areas that require improvement and initiate action plans to deal with working environment issues.
Conduct monthly meetings with staff highlighting any concerns and expectations which shall be documented. Use this forum to communicate and emphasize any management issues and instill a safety culture amongst the staff to actively participate in the drive to maintain good engineering and housekeeping practices.
Ensure staff welfare and report overall performance of staff regularly, recommending any needed training and development programmes to ensure continuous learning and progression. Ensure all staff are trained and qualified to carry out their duties and agree on an action plan with time scales for qualifications to be gained. Identifying all technical and non-technical training requirements to address staff and business needs to the benefit of the section ensuring productivity is maximised.
To be considered for the role, you must meet the below requirements:
National / Higher National Diploma (12+3 or equivalent) or Apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electronic, Avionics or Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent training with a reputable airline or an approved maintenance organization with 12+ years' experience in Engineering or Workshops.
Hold a license and or Shop Approval applicable to the specific area acceptable to the local authorities or equivalent professional qualifications.
Experience in commercial workshop maintenance and held a position of Supervisor or demonstrated management experience.
Detailed knowledge of testing/overhaul/repair and modification of modern aircraft components as fitted to the Emirates fleet.
