Develop department personnel. Show them a career, not just a job.
Conducts staff appraisals and make salary reviews
Develop solid # 2 to run operations and assist in retention.
Operations:
Oversee the management of the branch ocean department
Ensure that productivity and profitability goals for ocean department are met
Have a fundamental understanding of Expeditors operational systems, including ETMS, ATS
Be responsible for the training and development of ocean staff within the branch
Be responsible for compliance and quality issues for the ocean product within the branch, specifically but not limited to:
Compliance with Expeditors OPS Procedures
Compliance with local/regional government and Federal Maritime
Commission (FMC) regulations, including ATS
Compliance with Dangerous Goods Regulations (where applicable)
Compliance with LATAM, Middle East/ISC regulations
Develop relationships with the "core" carriers.
Develop joint local strategies with the carriers to ensure our account base is satisfied and our value to the carrier increases
Ensure EIO's value statement is clearly communicated to each core carrier
Ensure EIO's requirements on space, service and price are clearly communicated to each carrier
Provide local market feedback on carriers to the Regional Ocean Director.
Customer:
Lead the branch ocean sales effort. At least 50% of time to be spent on sales calls (retention and joint calls with branch sales team)
Have a thorough understanding of local market pricing conditions
Have a thorough understanding of and personal involvement with the top 10 ocean customers
Manage all ocean business within the branch after transition from sales
Oversee the branch bid/quotation process for the ocean product
Train, educate, and assist branch sales staff on ocean product, through joint sales calls
Participate in the weekly branch sales meeting
Finance:
Assist District Manager with preparation of annual department budget.
Meet monthly with District Manager to review department financial P&L and productivity results and goals.
Review, understand and focus on improving department freight yields.
Attend Accounts Receivable meetings and proactively work to maintain accounts payment within 30 days.
Ensure company credit procedures are followed and utilized effectively.
Manage intercompany accounting discrepancies via AJAX report.
Review Daily Branch Revenue report (Daily).
Ensure any contracts, vendor, customer or other, are reviewed in accordance to company contract policies prior to being signed.
Follow company capex procedure for the purchasing of any equipment for your staff or department.
Utilize Top 20 Accounts report to continually evaluate the development of departmental client base and the revenue distribution amounts and % of top clients, and work towards goal of balanced customer base (no more than 10% revenue by one customer).
Compliance:
Promote compliance in diligently following all company policies and regulations and in being the role model of integrity and pride for all employees.
Proactively communicate with the team to ensure continuous awareness and understanding of policies and regulations.
Maintain a positive relationship with the Trade Compliance Manager and support all compliance efforts and trainings.

Qualifications
Effective interpersonal skills, including proven abilities to listen, comprehend, effectively communicate clearly and concisely to obtain positive results.
Good Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word etc.)

Minimum of 8 years of experience in the ocean freight industry.
