• Prepare patients for dental procedures by making them comfortable and providing necessary instructions.
• Assist the dentist during procedures by handing instruments and materials, retracting patient's mouth, and using suction devices.
• Take and develop dental X-rays as directed by the dentist.
• Provide postoperative instructions prescribed by the dentist.
• Sterilize and disinfect dental instruments and equipment.
• Prepare and lay out dental instruments and materials required for procedures.
• Take dental impressions and pour up study models.
• Ensure that the dental operatory and laboratory are clean and well-organized.
• Maintain patient records, including updating dental charts and recording treatment information.
• Schedule and confirm patient appointments.
• Handle billing, coding, and processing insurance claims.
• Answer phone calls and respond to patient inquiries.
• Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and postoperative care.
• Provide patients with information on dental treatments and preventive care.
• Monitor and order dental supplies and materials.
• Ensure that the dental office is well-stocked with necessary supplies.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of an accredited dental assistant program.
• Certification:
• Certification as a Dental Assistant (MOH)
• Certification in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) may be required.
• Additional certifications such as radiology may be preferred.
