Job Summary:
The Technical Operations Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of technical systems and infrastructure within the organization. They ensure optimal performance, availability, and security of IT systems, supporting critical business functions. This role includes planning and implementing operational strategies, troubleshooting complex technical issues, managing a team of technical support staff, and working closely with other departments to meet organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations and Infrastructure Management:
• Oversee and manage daily technical operations, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability of all IT systems.
• Monitor and optimize server infrastructure, network components, databases, and storage systems.
• Lead the deployment, maintenance, and support of hardware, software, and network resources.
• Implement and enforce policies for hardware/software usage and data security.
Team Leadership and Development:
• Manage and mentor a team of IT operations specialists, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
• Foster a collaborative, productive, and innovative team environment.
• Recruit, train, and retain top talent to ensure the team has the skills needed to meet evolving technical challenges.
Incident and Problem Management:
• Lead the team in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues, ensuring minimal downtime and impact on business operations.
• Establish and improve processes for identifying, analyzing, and responding to technical incidents and outages.
• Coordinate with stakeholders on issue escalation and resolution, maintaining transparent communication.
Strategic Planning and Project Management:
• Contribute to long-term IT strategy and infrastructure planning.
• Manage technical projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and new deployments, from conception to implementation.
• Set and monitor project timelines, budgets, and resource allocations, ensuring projects align with organizational goals.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
• Develop and track key performance metrics to evaluate system performance, uptime, and incident response times.
• Generate regular performance reports for senior management, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
• Use data-driven insights to identify areas for cost savings, risk mitigation, and process improvement.
Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams:
• Work closely with product development, software engineering, and customer support teams to align technical operations with business objectives.
• Support the development team with deployment strategies, system integration, and production readiness.
Risk Management and Compliance:
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal policies for data privacy and security.
• Proactively identify potential risks, implementing safeguards and backup solutions to protect business continuity.
• Conduct regular risk assessments, vulnerability testing, and disaster recovery drills.
Budgeting and Resource Allocation:
• Assist in budgeting for IT operations and capital expenditures, tracking expenses and controlling costs.
• Evaluate new technologies and solutions to ensure cost-effective investments in technical infrastructure.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree or relevant certifications (ITIL, PMP, etc.) preferred.
• Experience: 5+ years in IT operations, with at least 2 years in a managerial or leadership role.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in server and network infrastructure, virtualization, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Nagios, Datadog, Splunk).
• Knowledge of information security practices, backup and recovery systems, and disaster recovery planning.
• Familiarity with DevOps tools and principles (e.g., Docker, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines).
