This includes ensuring all designs meet required standards, are efficient, and comply with safety regulations. The role also involves collaborating with architects, contractors, and other engineers to integrate MEP systems seamlessly within projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Drafting:
Develop detailed designs and plans for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for commercial, residential, or industrial buildings using design software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
System Coordination:
Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and other consultants to ensure MEP systems are integrated effectively into building designs.
Load Calculations:
Perform calculations for system sizing, including HVAC load calculations, electrical load analysis, and plumbing system capacity, ensuring compliance with local codes and regulations.
Code Compliance:
Ensure that designs meet building codes, safety standards, environmental regulations, and client specifications.
System Analysis:
Perform simulations and analyses (energy, lighting, ventilation, etc.) to ensure optimal performance and efficiency of MEP systems.
Troubleshooting:
Assist in identifying and resolving issues related to MEP systems during the design and construction phases.
Cost Estimation:
Prepare cost estimates and budgets for MEP systems, and ensure projects are completed within budget constraints.
Documentation:
Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and reports, for both internal use and submission to clients.
Project Management Support:
Provide design support throughout the project lifecycle, from concept through construction, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
Coordination of Construction:
Liaise with construction teams to ensure designs are implemented as planned, providing technical support when needed.
Sustainability:
Assist in designing energy-efficient systems and support sustainability initiatives to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering, or a related field.
2 years of experience in MEP design, preferably in the [specific industry, e.g., building services, construction, architecture].
Proficiency in MEP design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
Strong understanding of MEP systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, etc.).
Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and standards (ASHRAE, NEC, etc.).
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and optimize systems for energy efficiency and sustainability.
Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modeling) is a plus.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with international standards and codes (e.g., NFPA, ASHRAE, etc.).
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based with occasional site visits for coordination and inspections.
