This position is also responsible for carrying out cord blood policies and procedures for filing, organizing, and maintaining donor recordsResponsibilitiesThe Medical Laboratory Technologist shall have responsibility of assuring safety of procedures and products.
Check and administer all incoming cord blood units and maternal blood samples received from the cord blood collection centers.
Using current techniques and standards:
Reduce volume of cord blood units by depletion of red cells and plasma.
Prepare cord blood units for freezing (addition of cryoprotectant, transfer to freezing bags).
Cryopreserve cord blood units by controlled rate freezing.
Store cord blood units under appropriate conditions.
Performs internal calibration & maintenance of equipment.
Sample and prepare small aliquots of cord blood from each unit, before, during and after processing for quality checks, testing and storage.
Prepare maternal blood samples for testing and storage.
Ensures that products are stored in specified storage locations, labelled accordingly, & suitably packed for final delivery.
Ensuring proper labelling, testing, processing & disposition of all cord blood samples.
File all incoming test results.
To perform routine maintenance of equipment and inform the In-charge about any defect if at all.
To perform quality control and the requested analysis according to the laboratory policy
Preparation and Analysis of specimen and appropriate storage after analysis according to P & P.
To maintain daily entry of the specimens, their results and daily statistics in computer or register.
Temperature checks for all required equipments such as Refrigerators, freezers, Incubators, Water baths etc...
The Medical Laboratory Technologist must assure on yearly basis a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education in any of the following disciplines:
Donor safety.
CB banking.
Cellular therapy product collection, processing, and administration.
Donor selection.
Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.
Transfusion and blood banking.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
Graduate of an accredited (MLT) program leading to registration with DOH (Hematology, Blood Transfusion or Immunology)
Experience with Microsoft Office and office management.
Fluency in both English and Arabic (verbal and written)
