Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Marine Equipment Design:
• Develop 3D models, technical drawings, and assembly instructions for mechanical systems and components used in marine applications, including propulsion systems, ship hulls, marine engines, and supporting systems.
• Utilize SolidWorks to design complex mechanical assemblies, ensuring all parts fit, function, and adhere to marine industry standards.
• Design Analysis:
• Conduct stress analysis, thermal simulations, and motion analysis to validate mechanical designs using SolidWorks Simulation.
• Perform material selection and evaluate different design options based on factors like strength, durability, weight, and corrosion resistance.
• Prototype Development and Testing:
• Collaborate with the engineering team to build and test prototypes of mechanical systems and components.
• Modify designs based on prototype testing results, optimizing performance and functionality.
• Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with other engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure design requirements are understood and met.
• Participate in regular design reviews, providing updates and recommendations for design improvements.
• Technical Documentation:
• Prepare detailed design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and assembly instructions, ensuring all designs meet regulatory standards.
• Ensure accurate and clear communication of design details for production and assembly teams.
• Compliance and Standards:
• Ensure that all designs comply with relevant marine industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
• Keep up to date with technological advancements and industry trends related to marine design and SolidWorks usage.
• Problem Solving and Innovation:
• Address engineering challenges by applying innovative solutions while maintaining project timelines and budgets.
• Troubleshoot and resolve design issues during the manufacturing and installation phases.

Qualifications:

• Education:
• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
• Professional certifications in SolidWorks (e.g., Certified SolidWorks Professional) is a plus.
• Experience:
• Minimum of [3-5] years of experience in mechanical design, with at least [2-3] years in marine design or related industries.
• Proven experience using SolidWorks for 3D modeling, CAD, and simulation in mechanical design.
• Familiarity with marine engineering concepts, including propulsion systems, hull design, HVAC, and other shipboard mechanical systems.
• Skills:
• Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D CAD), SolidWorks Simulation, and other engineering design tools.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including material science, mechanics of materials, and fluid dynamics as they apply to marine systems.
• Understanding of marine industry standards, regulations, and certifications (e.g., RINA or ENAVE).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with other CAD software, such as AutoCAD or Inventor, is beneficial.
• Background in designing marine vessels or offshore structures.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and an understanding of how designs translate into physical products.
• Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in an office environment and occasionally visit manufacturing sites or shipyards for design verification and troubleshooting.
• Comfortable with the use of computers and design software for extended periods.

Work Environment:

• This role may involve both office-based design work and on-site visits to shipyards or marine facilities.
• Flexible working hours or remote work options may be available.
