Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer - Site Construction (Villas & Buildings)Responsibilities:

Design & Planning:

Design mechanical systems for buildings, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and ventilation systems, ensuring they meet client requirements and building codes. Perform load calculations and ensure that HVAC systems, piping systems, and other mechanical equipment are appropriately sized. Coordinate with architects, electrical engineers, and structural engineers to ensure all mechanical systems are properly integrated into the building's design. Select and specify appropriate equipment such as air handling units, pumps, boilers, chillers, etc., based on project needs and specifications.

Site Supervision & Installation:

Oversee the installation of mechanical systems, including HVAC units, piping, ductwork, plumbing fixtures, and fire protection systems. Supervise contractors and subcontractors on-site to ensure the proper installation of mechanical systems according to design specifications. Ensure all mechanical installations are done per safety regulations and meet quality standards. Conduct regular site inspections to monitor the progress of mechanical system installations, troubleshoot issues, and ensure adherence to timelines.

Coordination & Communication:

Coordinate with the construction team to ensure that the mechanical systems are integrated into the building without conflicts with other systems (e.g., electrical or plumbing). Communicate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to address issues, provide progress updates, and ensure mechanical systems meet performance expectations. Work with suppliers to ensure that all materials, equipment, and components for mechanical systems are delivered on time and in compliance with project specifications.

Quality Assurance & Testing:

Conduct tests on mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, to ensure they operate efficiently and safely. Verify that all systems are installed and functioning as per the design requirements. Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with mechanical systems during installation and after commissioning.

Safety & Compliance:

Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, including health and safety standards for mechanical systems installation and operation. Perform regular safety audits to identify hazards and implement corrective measures. Ensure mechanical systems meet local building codes, environmental regulations, and other legal requirements.

Documentation & Reporting:

Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and reports related to mechanical systems. Maintain records of system designs, installation procedures, and maintenance schedules. Document and report any issues or changes that occur during installation to ensure the integrity of the mechanical systems.

Commissioning & Handover:

Oversee the commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring they are tested and operating as designed before the final handover to the client. Provide the client with maintenance manuals, system documentation, and instructions for the mechanical systems installed. Offer support for any issues that arise after commissioning, ensuring proper operation and performance of all systems.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Proven experience in mechanical systems design, installation, and commissioning, especially in residential or commercial construction. Experience with mechanical design software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.). Strong knowledge of building codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASHRAE standards, local plumbing codes, etc.). Certification in HVAC systems, plumbing, or fire protection systems (e.g., LEED certification, PMP) is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building mechanical systems. Proficient in mechanical design software and tools. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication, leadership, and coordination abilities. Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines. Knowledge of energy-efficient building systems and sustainable construction practices.

Work Environment:

Site-based, working on construction sites during installation phases, so physical presence on-site is required. Some office work may be needed during the planning and design phases.

Key Mechanical Systems to Oversee in Site Construction:

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning):

Ensuring the correct sizing, installation, and commissioning of HVAC systems for heating, cooling, and ventilation needs.

Plumbing Systems:

Ensuring the installation of piping for water supply, waste systems, and sewage systems, as well as fixtures like sinks, toilets, and showers.

Fire Protection Systems:

Designing and ensuring the proper installation of fire sprinkler systems, alarms, and emergency shut-off systems.
