A Mechanic Car Driver is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and servicing of vehicles, along with driving and testing them to ensure functionality. This position requires knowledge of mechanical systems, attention to detail, and safe driving practices. The role may involve mobile repairs, where the technician travels to customers' locations, or working at an auto shop.
Key Responsibilities:
• Vehicle Repair & Maintenance:
• Diagnose mechanical problems and troubleshoot issues using diagnostic tools and techniques.
• Perform regular maintenance tasks such as oil changes, brake checks, tire rotations, and battery replacements.
• Repair and replace damaged or faulty car parts, such as engines, transmissions, suspension systems, electrical components, and more.
• Ensure vehicles are properly maintained and are safe to drive by checking for wear and tear or any mechanical issues.
• Driving and Road Testing:
• Drive cars to test repairs or ensure proper functionality after completing mechanical work.
• Ensure the car is running smoothly and diagnose any driving-related issues.
• Transport vehicles to and from different locations (e.g., from customers, service shops, or parts suppliers).
• Mobile Mechanic Services (if applicable):
• Travel to customer locations to perform on-site diagnostics and repairs, especially for breakdowns or emergency situations.
• Provide excellent customer service while interacting with clients during the repair process.
• Manage parts and tools required for the job, ensuring that repairs can be performed on-site.
• Safety and Compliance:
• Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure the safe operation of both the vehicle and the tools used for repairs.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, whether on the job site or in a service garage.
• Ensure all work is completed in compliance with local automotive laws and regulations.
• Record Keeping and Documentation:
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, vehicle maintenance schedules, and parts used.
• Communicate with customers or management about the status of the repair and any additional work that may be needed.
• Keep a log of driving and mechanical service activities for reporting purposes.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of vehicle engines, electrical systems, suspension, brakes, transmissions, and other mechanical systems.
• Diagnostic Skills: Ability to use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify mechanical issues and recommend repairs.
• Driving Skills: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to drive a variety of vehicles.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and offer solutions efficiently.
• Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills for working with customers, explaining repairs, and offering advice.
• Attention to Detail: Precision in diagnosing and performing repairs to ensure optimal vehicle performance.
Experience and Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent; further training in automotive technology preferred.
• Certification in automotive repair (e.g., ASE certification) is a plus.
• Proven experience as a mechanic or mobile mechanic, with a strong understanding of vehicle systems.
• Previous experience as a driver is highly desirable, especially in roles that required road testing vehicles.
Working Conditions:
• May require working outdoors, in varying weather conditions, or in tight spaces when performing repairs.
• The job could involve long hours or irregular shifts, especially if working as a mobile mechanic or in an emergency repair situation.
• Potential exposure to mechanical tools, oils, and other automotive chemicals, requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
