Job Description

*Duties and Responsibilities:*
  • In addition to teaching Lead Teachers have the following duties and
responsibilities:*Department Planning:*
In consultation with the Section Principal:
  • Construct a Development and Improvement Plan, defining short-, medium- and
long-term goals of the department using assessment data as well as KHDA
and Accreditation agencies reports.
  • Provide the administrative framework through which students and staff may
function effectively.
  • Oversee the implementation and evaluation of the Development and
Improvement Plan.
  • Prepare the department for internal and external school inspection and
accreditation visits such as KHDA, NEASC-CIS, MOE, etc.
  • Identify professional development areas and needs
*Curriculum:*
  • Construct and oversee schemes of work in the Department that satisfy
statutory requirements and are compatible with the schools aims,
policies, and ethos.
  • Provide coordination, management, and supervision of long-term and
day-to-day curriculum planning, delivery, and operations within the
department.
  • Ensure that a high-quality curriculum meets the needs of students of all
abilities.
  • Ensure that schemes of work are differentiated to meet the needs of
individual students.
  • Liaise with the SEND about students with special educational needs and
ensure they are well supported in the classrooms.
  • Ensure that schemes of work show continuity and progression.
  • Ensure that the curriculum is vertically and horizontally aligned across
phases.
  • Ensure the curriculum meets set standards and grade-level expectations.
  • Assist in the improvement of cross-curricular themes, skills, and
dimensions.
  • Promote teaching and learning strategies within the department that
stimulate students\' interest and involvement in learning and meet the
needs of individual learners, drawing on good practice in different areas.
  • Revise resources and suggest additional and alternative resources to
improve teaching and learning.*Assessment:*
  • Develop and monitor assessment procedures compatible with the school
policy and statutory requirements
  • Run appropriate assessments that are aligned with the curriculum,
assessment criteria, and the school vision and mission.
  • Review and monitor regularly the effectiveness of assessment practice.
  • Provide advice and support to teachers on assessment strategies.
  • Follow up on the used assessment strategies in the classroom.
  • Ensure quality and effectiveness of the verbal and written feedback given
by teachers to students.
  • Ensure assessment submission, correction, and entering data on the SMS are
accurate and on time.
  • Ensure that teachers share the MAP Goal sheet with students, allocate time
for assessment reflection, and use CAT4 data for differentiation.
  • Monitor teacher's use of assessment to feedback and develop curriculum,
teaching, and learning processes.
  • Compare student's performance in internal and external assessments then
design an action plan to bridge the gap.
  • Track data and discuss means of celebrating achievement (attainment and
progress) and intervening if students are working below expected progress.
  • If students are not making expected progress over two or more rounds of
Tracking, RTI guidelines and expectations need to be put in place: parents
to be notified, clear plan put into action.*Management of Staff:*
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead, motivate, and get the best out of others.
Lead Teachers should foster a common sense of purpose, shared vision, and
sense of mission within the department.
  • Assist with recruitment and appointment of teachers.
  • Work with the principal and Section principal to prepare annual goals for
the subject area and lead the subject areas meetings and activities to
meet these goals. Conduct the teachers appraisal process.
  • Work with the principal and Section principal to identify appropriate
professional development strategies and activities for the subject area as
a whole and for individual teachers.
  • Identify strengths and areas for improvement of staff and take appropriate
actions to encourage high morale.
  • Bring to the attention of the Senior Leadership Team areas of concern in
the professional capability of teaching and non-teaching staff.
  • Ensure that lesson plans are prepared, schemes of work are followed,
student performance/work is assessed and recorded, and Atlas Rubicon is
updated.
  • Hold effective departmental meetings and ensure that minutes are
distributed to members of the department and the Section Principals.
  • Ensure that the department is represented at cross-curricular group
meetings.*Behavior Management:*
  • Provide support and advice to teachers relating to their classroom
management strategies and professional tasks.
  • Liaise with SLT as necessary regarding reoccurring and severe behavior
issues.
  • Deal positively and appropriately with referred discipline issues.
  • Ensure Al Ittihad school policy guidelines are maintained when working
with students.
  • Maintain accurate notes, and records on student referrals.
*Child Protection and Safety:*
  • Actively support and adhere to the Child Protection Policy, including
attending annual training.
  • Ensure lessons, activities, and trips are inclusive, safe, and secure for
ISP students adhering to the health and safety standards set forth by
government authorities and INPS health and safety guidelines.*Additional duties:*
  • Engage with the administration in a committed effort to improve
instructional skills.
  • Openly support and abide by all school policies and procedures.
  • Model the Core Values of the school in interactions with the school
community.
  • Liaise with the Principal, taking on tasks as assigned, including all
school goals.
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal and continuous professional growth and
development.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Teaching Assignments: responsible for teaching 12 periods per week.
  • Serve as the official liaison between the school and the respective
curriculum supervisor in the Curriculum Development Department.
  • Participate in formal class observations of colleagues in the subject area
and provide appropriate peer assistance, feedback, and possible solutions.
  • Initiate and participate in teachers professional development
activities including orientation and training of new teachers.
