Overview:

Marine Engines Technicians are skilled professionals responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of marine propulsion systems and associated equipment. They ensure that various types of watercraft, including boats and ships, operate efficiently and safely. This role requires a deep understanding of marine engines, electrical systems, and mechanical components.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Repair:

Perform routine maintenance on marine engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks. Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in marine propulsion systems. Repair or replace defective components and systems, including engines, transmissions, fuel systems, and electrical systems.

Inspection and Testing:

Conduct thorough inspections of engines and mechanical systems to identify wear and damage. Use diagnostic tools and equipment to assess engine performance and efficiency. Test marine engines and systems post-repair to ensure they meet performance standards and safety regulations.

Installation:

Assist in the installation of new engines and other propulsion systems. Ensure that all installed equipment complies with industry standards and manufacturer specifications.

Documentation:

Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair work performed on marine engines and systems. Document inspections and tests, including any repairs made, parts replaced, and service performed.

Customer Service:

Communicate effectively with boat owners to understand their needs and concerns regarding engine performance. Provide recommendations for maintenance schedules and upgrades to enhance engine life and performance.

Safety Protocols:

Adhere to safety practices and protocols while working in marine environments. Ensure that all tools and equipment are in good condition and used safely.
Qualifications:

Education:

Mechanical engineering certification or training in marine technology or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

Previous experience working with marine engines and systems is highly advantageous. Familiarity with various types of marine engines, such as diesel and gasoline engines, outboard motors, and inboard engines.

Skills:

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in the use of diagnostic and troubleshooting tools. Good communication skills for customer interaction and teamwork. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Working Conditions:

Work is conducted in marine environments, including boatyards, marinas, and onboard vessels. May require working in adverse weather conditions or in confined spaces. Physical demands include lifting heavy equipment, using hand and power tools, and standing for extended periods.
