The Head of External Reporting role is a key role within the accounting and finance organization and will work closely with the ME Financial Controller and the rest of the international and regional controllership team. As part of a dynamic team, you will have responsibility for the co-ordination of the internal and external audits for our Middle East legal entities, leading on the preparation of the IFRS financial statements for both trading and holdings companies (~26 legal entities), providing month end close support to the internal reporting team, providing technical accounting advice across the region, and responding to technical accounting and audit related queries from Management, Corporate and our external auditors.



You will interact with the wider Middle East finance team, business leaders, corporate executives, internal and external audit teams and outside professional advisors. The role will operate across all AECOM divisions, supporting in ensuring accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting information, the management of our legal entity structure, and in optimizing this structure to support key business objectives.


Key responsibilities

• Leading the Middle East external audit process, including preparing extended trial balances and collating necessary support, and responding to queries from auditors. The Middle East currently has 19 audited companies including several major trading companies and investment companies.
• Ensuring ME statutory financial statements are accurate, comply with local GAAP and legal regulations and are filed in accordance with local timescales
• Line manager responsibilities for team of 2. Coaching and mentoring wider AECOM finance team both onshore and offshore.
• Providing timely, accurate and relevant technical accounting support to the ME business including quarterly corporate reporting under US GAAP.
• Supervising and directing our offshore Global Business Services (GBS) team to drive the efficient production of statutory accounts using software to optimize performance. Driving an attitude of continual improvement in the use of accounts production software, and quality where possible
• Supervising general ledger accounting and managing the month end close process for our international holding company structure under US GAAP, including working with our offshore GBS team to ensure close activities are completed accurately and in accordance with internal timetables
• Building strong relationships with internal and external finance colleagues, business partners, advisors and key business leaders to support, optimize, explain and manage the financial structures in place to support the business. Providing technical accounting support to restructuring activities
• Driving in the ongoing drive to reduce the complexity and size of our legal entity structure by simplifying legal entities and liquidating older legacy companies where possible
• Leading the implementation of new ME / US GAAP accounting standards and corporate accounting policies across the ME region in conjunction with Global Accounting team, where possible
• Ensuring our internal control environment is strong and compliant with public company requirements and AECOM policies, including supporting the internal audit process throughout the period
• Supporting and driving strategic initiatives to drive efficiencies from the Finance organization that comply with regulations and, where possible, centralize and use existing shared service centres
• Lead on Tax return filing and tax Assessment i.e. corporate tax, withholding Tax return and VAT return in ME countries.
• Lead the ICV, Classification audit in UAE, Qatar and KSA.



Minimum Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
• Prior experience in an engineering consulting company would be preferred

Qualifications

Chartered Accountant / ACCA/ CPA
