Job Description

Job Summary:

The Lathe Machinist sets up, operates, and maintains lathes to fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical parts, components, and tools. This role requires a strong understanding of machining techniques, attention to detail, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Machine Operation: Set up and operate manual and CNC lathes to perform turning, boring, threading, and facing operations on metal workpieces.
• Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine machining operations, tooling, and material requirements.
• Tool Setup: Select and install cutting tools, attachments, and accessories for machining tasks, ensuring optimal performance and precision.
• Material Handling: Load and secure workpieces in the lathe using appropriate methods and devices.
• Measurement and Inspection: Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to inspect workpieces and ensure they meet specified tolerances and dimensions.
• Quality Control: Conduct quality checks throughout the machining process, making adjustments as necessary to maintain product quality and consistency.
• Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on lathes and other machinery to ensure efficient operation and prevent breakdowns.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and others.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, including job orders, machining parameters, and inspection results.
• Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and other machinists to optimize machining processes and resolve technical issues.
