The Lifting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all lifting operations on a construction or industrial site. This role ensures that all lifting activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with legal and company regulations. The Lifting Supervisor must have a deep understanding of lifting equipment, rigging practices, and safety procedures to manage and coordinate lifting operations effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lifting Operations Management:
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise all lifting operations on site, ensuring they are carried out safely and efficiently.
• Prepare and review lifting plans, including risk assessments and method statements.
• Ensure that all lifting equipment, such as cranes, hoists, and rigging, is properly inspected, certified, and maintained.
• Safety Compliance:
• Enforce strict adherence to safety standards and regulations during all lifting operations.
• Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks with the lifting team to ensure everyone understands the lifting plan and associated risks.
• Monitor the lifting site to identify potential hazards and take corrective actions as necessary.
• Team Leadership:
• Supervise and guide the lifting team, including crane operators, riggers, and signalmen, to ensure safe and effective execution of lifting tasks.
• Assign duties and responsibilities to team members based on their skills and qualifications.
• Provide training and mentorship to the lifting crew to enhance their skills and safety awareness.
• Documentation & Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of lifting operations, including equipment logs, inspection reports, and incident reports.
• Report any accidents, incidents, or near misses to the Site Manager and Safety Officer immediately.
• Prepare and submit regular reports on lifting activities, including progress, issues, and recommendations for improvement.
• Liaison & Coordination:
• Coordinate with other site supervisors, engineers, and contractors to ensure lifting operations are integrated smoothly into the overall project plan.
• Communicate with the project management team to provide updates on lifting operations and any potential delays or issues.
• Liaise with equipment suppliers and inspectors to ensure timely delivery and certification of lifting equipment.
• Continuous Improvement:
• Review and evaluate lifting operations to identify areas for improvement.
• Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance the safety and efficiency of lifting activities.
• Stay updated with the latest industry standards and regulations related to lifting operations.
Qualifications:
• Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent. A technical diploma or degree in a related field is an advantage.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in lifting operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Extensive experience with cranes, rigging, and other lifting equipment.
• Proven track record of managing lifting operations on construction or industrial sites.
• Technical Skills:
• In-depth knowledge of lifting equipment, rigging practices, and safety regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret lifting plans, method statements, and technical drawings.
• Proficiency in using lifting equipment inspection tools and software.
• Familiarity with local and international lifting standards (e.g., OSHA, LOLER).
• Soft Skills:
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
Certifications:
• Lifting Supervisor certification from a recognized authority.
• Rigging and Slinging certification.
• Crane Operator certification is a plus.
• First Aid and CPR certification is desirable.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work in various environments, including outdoor construction sites and industrial facilities.
• Capable of lifting heavy objects and working at heights.
• Willingness to work extended hours and on weekends as required by the project schedule.
