PURPOSE OF THE JOB:The Lead Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for overseeing the instrumentation engineering aspects of offshore upstream oil and gas projects from the conceptual design phase through to detailed engineering and construction. This role involves ensuring the design, installation, and operation of instrumentation systems meet project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The Lead Instrumentation Engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, manage engineering deliverables, and support project execution to achieve optimal performance and reliability.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and manage instrumentation engineering activities for offshore upstream oil and gas projects.
Develop project execution plans, schedules, and budgets for instrumentation scope.
Ensure all project deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Develop and review instrumentation design documents, including P&IDs, instrument datasheets, loop diagrams, and control philosophies.
Specify and select instrumentation equipment, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
Perform instrument sizing and calculations for control valves, flow meters, pressure, and temperature instruments.
Provide technical guidance and leadership to the instrumentation engineering team.
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure integrated project delivery.
Conduct technical reviews and audits to ensure design integrity and compliance with industry
Prepare technical specifications and evaluate bids for instrumentation equipment and services.
Manage relationships with vendors and contractors, ensuring timely delivery and quality of equipment and services.
Oversee factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and installation inspections.
Ensure all instrumentation designs comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses related to instrumentation systems.
Implement safety instrumented systems (SIS) and ensure compliance with IEC 61511 standards.
Support commissioning and startup activities, ensuring instrumentation systems are correctly installed and operational.
Troubleshoot and resolve instrumentation-related issues during commissioning and initial operation phases.
Provide training and support to operations and maintenance personnel.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, including design calculations, datasheets, and as-built drawings.
Prepare regular progress reports and updates for project stakeholders.
Ensure documentation is archived and maintained according to company procedures.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Masters degree is a plus.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in instrumentation engineering, with at least 5 years in a lead role within offshore upstream oil and gas projects.
In-depth knowledge of industry standards and codes (e.g., ISA, IEC, API, ANSI).
Proficiency in instrumentation design software and tools (e.g., SmartPlant Instrumentation, INtools).
Strong project management skills, with experience in managing budgets, schedules, and resources.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment.
Willingness to travel to offshore sites and project locations as required.
Familiarity with project management principles and practices is desirable.
