Job Description

The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the British Applied College in Umm Al Quwain (BAC) invites applications for a Laboratory Supervisor position. The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with at least three years of experience in laboratory management and technical support. This position aims to enhance the applied learning mission of the college by maintaining and operating laboratory facilities, ensuring safety, and providing technical support for students and faculty.

The selected candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of state-of-the-art laboratories, support academic activities, and assist in conducting experiments and training sessions.

Responsibilities

• Laboratory Management :
• Supervise daily laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and best practices.
• Maintain laboratory equipment in optimal condition through regular cleaning, calibration, and preventive maintenance.
• Manage inventory, order supplies, and ensure the availability of materials for experiments and academic projects.
• Technical Support :

Assist students and faculty in conducting experiments, demonstrations, and lab-based projects.

Provide technical support during lab sessions, ensuring smooth operation of equipment and experiments.

Conduct pre-lab demonstrations for students on the proper use of equipment.

• Safety and Compliance :

Enforce safety guidelines and conduct regular safety drills to ensure a hazard-free environment.

Monitor the use of potentially hazardous materials and equipment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.

• Training and Development :

Train students and faculty on the operation of specialized equipment and laboratory procedures.

Design and conduct lab-based training sessions aligned with academic requirements.

• Record Keeping :

Maintain accurate records of experiments, test results, and maintenance activities.

Keep equipment manuals and lab operation logs updated.

• Facility Enhancement :
• Recommend upgrades to laboratory facilities to align with emerging industry trends.
• Collaborate with faculty to incorporate innovative lab practices and technologies.
• Additional Duties :

Assist in curriculum development by suggesting lab-based practical activities.

Support accreditation processes by maintaining detailed documentation of lab activities and safety protocols.

Perform other duties assigned by the Head of School/Academic Director.

Qualifications

Essential :

• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in laboratory supervision, technical support, or a similar role.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining electrical and mechanical laboratory equipment.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.

Preferred :

• Experience in conducting training sessions or working in an educational setting.
• Familiarity with advanced lab equipment used in Civil/Mechanical Engineering.
• Certifications in laboratory safety or technical operations.
• Working knowledge of CAD software, materials testing, or construction simulation tools.

Reports to : Head of School
