Laboratory Assistant



The Centre for Innovation in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Aviation (IRADA) is seeking a dedicated and technically skilled Laboratory Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the Innovation hub. The successful candidate will assist with Artificial Intelligence and robotics projects, provide essential support to ensure the smooth operation of lab activities, including assisting with research projects, maintaining lab equipment, and providing technical support to students and researchers. The role involves helping faculties with AI and robotics experiments, equipment setup, data collection, and ensuring the lab is a safe and organized working environment. This position requires technical skills, a passion for learning, and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.


Key Responsibilities:


• Lab Setup and Equipment Maintenance : Assist with the preparation and calibration of AI and robotics equipment, ensuring all resources are operational for research and teaching activities.
• Technical Support : Provide hands-on assistance to researchers and students, helping them with hardware setup, software configurations, and troubleshooting.
• Data Collection and Experimentation : Support ongoing experiments, including data collection, processing, and analysis, and assist in maintaining detailed records and documentation of research activities.
• Safety and Compliance : Enforce lab safety protocols, ensuring all equipment and experiments meet safety standards and university regulations.
• Training and Workshop Assistance : Support Innovation Hub manager in organizing and delivering practical workshops and training sessions, supporting participants in developing their technical skills in AI and robotics.
• Inventory and Resource Management : Manage lab inventory, ensuring all equipment and supplies are readily available and in good working condition.
• Other Duties : Perform any additional laboratory or innovation hub tasks as assigned by the Lab Manager to ensure smooth lab operations.


Qualifications:


• Educational Background :

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Advanced coursework or a concentration in machine learning, data science, or robotics is preferred.
• Technical Skills :

• Programming Proficiency: Strong knowledge of programming languages including Python (for AI and data science), SQL( Database Management), as well as mobile and web app development.
• IDEs and Tools: Familiarity with development environments such as or Jupyter Notebook/Spyder (for Python), MATLAB (for numerical computing and data analysis), MS Office (Advanced Excel), Android Studio (for Android app development), Xcode (for iOS development), and Visual Studio (for Python and robotics projects).
• Experience with TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch for building and training deep learning models and OpenCV for image processing.
• Familiarity with robotics software (e.g., ROS - Robot Operating System) and visualisation tools like Power BI , Tableaus is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with Web development platform and cloud technology (eg: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).


Experience :



• Prior experience in a research or laboratory setting, particularly within AI or robotics, is preferred.
• Experience with data analysis and visualization tools, including Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or relevant Python libraries.
• Strong understanding of research methodologies, experimental design, and data management practices.


Communication and Collaboration :



• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document research and present findings clearly.
• Collaborative mindset, with experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently on assigned research tasks.


Additional Skills (Preferred) :



• Knowledge of control systems, computer vision, or natural language processing.
• Experience in publishing or contributing to academic research papers.
